Hardly any National Action Plans to address antimicrobial resistance include reducing antibiotic use as an explicit goal 🤯

Report shows only 3 countries had a significant reduction in sales after implementing their NAPs: Jordan, Sth Africa & Indonesia 👏👏

🧪 Antibiotics in our rivers: a global problem

A new study has found that 8,500 tonnes of antibiotics from human use end up in rivers every year. In 6 million km of rivers, levels are high enough to harm ecosystems or promote resistance.

Price of pretomanid to drop by 25% to increase accessibility for patients with TB. Great example of how global public-private partnerships can increase access to antimicrobials while maintaining economic viability for manufacturing #TB #publichealth #antimicrobials

Large study ties early-life antibiotic exposure to higher risk of asthma, allergies, other conditions

The authors of the observational study say the findings highlight the need for more judicious antibiotic prescribing in children under age 2.

Staph aureus bacteremia take-homes from the SNAP trial:
1. Cefazolin = flucloxacillin (and presumably oxacillin and nafcillin)
2. Penicillin is just dandy for penicillin-susceptible Staph aureus, which is becoming (inexplicably) more common #IDSky

The SNAP trial may finally resolve some of the longest-running debates in SAB management (cefazolin vs semi-synthetic PCN? Is PCN really active vs PSSA?).
Huge congrats to Drs. Joshua Davis, Steven Tong, & the global team who made this ambitious trial happen. #IDSky blogs.jwatch.org/hiv-id-obser...

Go where the money is? No go where the AMR is.
Asia remains the epicenter of antimicrobial resistance, yet is underrepresented in clinical trials.

The most anticipated RCT in ID
🔥SNAP RCT🔥The largest RCT 2 date in SA bactermia
N:1341
Cefazolin Vs ASPs ((flu)cloxacillin) for MSSA bacteremia
Cefazolin is non-inferior (90d mortality)& less AKI than ASPs
A practice-changer RCT that must change the guidelines

fluclox resulted in higher mortality and more AKI compared to penicillin for PSSA
