Hello to new Blue people!
I'm an artist who works a lot with researchers on all sorts of environmental things.
Currently artist-in-residence with Convex Seascape Survey looking at #benthic #invertebrates
One of my recent pieces made together with refugees and asylum seekers. Called SeaBed. 🧪🦑

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Really interesting article (and fab video) - rewrites the history of colour pigments and use and raises the question of what other colour pigments may have been used but not preserved? @pavementgeology.bsky.social

Europe's oldest blue pigment

Dating back ~13,000 years, it questions the long-held belief that Palaeolithic artists only used red or black and indicates a more vibrant Ice Age world than previously imagined

Does anyone have any experience of folding/collapsible kayaks? I'm thinking of getting one for trips to Wales and Scotland (need to be able to pack my photo gear) and have been looking at Oru and Trak2. #kayak #kayaks
naomihart.bsky.social
Completely anecdotal: met someone using one, looked like the Oru, but thi was a few years ago so can't be sure. He said it was less stable than a conventional one took a bit of getting used to.
No idea if this is useful info or not, given how vague it is... 😁

Thinking for a while about #poemsabout #candlelight and kept returning to this memory from childhood from the snow of 1987.

This and playing with candle wax in restaurants, good times!

Thanks as always for the prompt 🙏 and fab #writingcommunity

1987

to be just eight, in the snowstorm that took down the powerlines in our Warwickshire village, buried most people in drift & made Dad a hero in his 4x4 pickup, ours the only house with a solid fuel Aga, hearths blazing, hot water chains up to the old iron bath that could easily fit four: we learned community, invited neighbours for hearty soup & stews, gathered around the kitchen table, faces lit by candlelight as we played our hands, my brother & I off school in the middle of the chaos, holding a candle it would never melt.

If you need more "accounts to follow that are better than what's going on right now," I have a list for that.

Note: I make no guarantees as to the content of the listed accounts, but in my experience this list is, as per the name, a good break from ::all this::

That messiness is where creativity lives, and creativity is the only path out of this.

We need to be wildly imaginative. We need to envision a future and describe it in such vivid and insistent color that they simply cannot pave over it with their tacky, boring, grayscale hatred.

My best friend met a guy in a Spanish evening class. They swapped numbers in the first lesson. They have been happily married for 20 years and have two kids.
