And sadly I couldn’t post a running commentary from the team account as I usually do, as I was hosting, but I have some notes so will see what I can do with those later!

Huge thanks to @krysiawally.bsky.social , @jpuddlegoose.bsky.social & Bernice Hardie for sharing their work in faith communities for disability inclusion & social justice at @learningmet.bsky.social. Great to host such interesting speakers on a topic we don’t talk about enough in #DisabilityStudies.

🗞️ NEWS 🗞️

Dr. Krysia Waldock and I have chapters to release from the two co-edited collections. Here is our next premiere of the 'talking heads' videos. These books focus on neurodivergence and education, in all its renditions (i.e., in life too).

And you doing that prompted me to do the same and reach out to my local synagogue, so thank you.

Solidarity with the Jewish community, especially in Manchester. The murder of two people at worship on the holiest day of the Jewish year is beyond reprehensible.

Done - thanks for highlighting. I swam there quite a bit when I lived in the area.

1. Dr. Jane Goodall 1934 - 2025

In 1962, a very young woman named Jane Goodall stepped into the African forest.

What she would discover shattered our understanding of the place of human beings in the world.

She revealed that chimpanzees use tools, form bonds, and experience emotions.

I may have to start doing that. I nearly missed it in a bibliography. My inability to type could have been in evidence in print forever 😂

I’m enjoying how people from various disciplines are now all popping in to tell me which key terminology from their fields they repeatedly get wrong, from the deceptively simple to the terrifying.

Doing copy edits for a soon-forthcoming journal article (exciting!) After more than a decade researching in this field, it seems I still can't spell "disability."

Wishing you all the strength for it. Such a nightmare

Right? The ironic thing is that one of the research projects I’m working on in my university role is on complaints. About social care, in that case, but some of the principles are very similar no matter what services disabled people are having to complain about. The blame game is all too common.

I can imagine that - beautiful place, great people! Not the north, but I lived in Nottingham for three years and had such a lovely time. I was not made for the south - but alas I was born here and stuck here through circumstances. But one day I’ll move up to nicer parts!
naomijacobs.bsky.social
And thank you for the offer - it’s really kind :) If I change my mind I’ll let you know!
naomijacobs.bsky.social
Hah tell me about it! I don’t go up very often though. MMU are wonderful about supporting me to work remotely. Although I really wish I lived up north!

Like - and I’m not kidding - I was told what my “areas of improvement” for booking my tickets and support should be. Thank you, train company. I will work on being less of a problem for your support staff. Hey, maybe next time I’ll try just not being disabled. Or not travelling on your trains. 🤦

Aww, thank you so much! While the team sound amazing, at this point I have so much sports trauma (and fear of balls flying towards me!) that I think it would still be miserable. But maybe I could come and watch sometime :) I’m in Maidenhead but work in Manchester. So I could pop in one day!

I’m not naming the train companies because I can’t handle the stress of complaining further (and being told more that it was all my fault). Which is a good outcome for the train companies, really - probably not a coincidence. Just one more experience pushing me back into the car.

What is the point in complaining about #AccessFail s? I’ve had emails from two different train companies today about journeys where assistance went wrong. Both responses come down to “Your fault.” I got a refund so I win (ish), but can we please stop blaming disabled people for poor access support?
