Eh
These fucking people. A writer like this will debate whether this is fascism or a general type of authoritarianism...while next in line for the firing squad.
Corruption requires explict quid pro quo. It is not corrupt to take an action that aligns with the interest of a person who gives you a gift, unless the official action was in direct response to that gift--a bribe. Terms matter. Accuracy and fairness matters. Regardless of what social media wants.

Me to my dog: "LUNA WHERE IS THE REMOTE THERE IS A NEW POPE!"
VATICAN CITY (AP) — White smoke pours from the Sistine Chapel chimney, signalling a pope has been elected to lead the Catholic Church.

Well, at least one person in that room was ready to defend the Constitution.
NEW on how Mohsen Mahdawi was detained in a "trap."

At a citizenship interview, he signed his pledge to “defend the Constitution."

The official left to go “check” something. Said he'd be back.

Then masked & armed agents came in, shackled Mahdawi, and tried to fly him 1000 miles away to Louisiana.

The Palestinian Columbia student’s legal team says Mahdawi signed a pledge to defend the Constitution, and then ICE showed up.

NEW: Mahmoud Khalil's wife gave birth to their child without him after ICE denied their request to let him be present.

“This was a purposeful decision by ICE to make me, Mahmoud, and our son suffer,” Dr. Abdalla said. “My son and I should not be navigating his first days on earth without Mahmoud."

The defense secretary is accused of dangerous incompetence by insiders. The homeland security secretary has her purse and $3000 nicked. The FBI director flies gov't air to visit an NHL game and his country-singing girlfriend.

The supposed pretext for a security state is that it makes you safer

None of these men wash their assholes.
Incredible moment in Frisco: Austin Metcalf’s dad just called the organizers of the Protect White People rally to say they’re “part of the fucking problem” and to stop using photos of his kid. They responded by blaming his “white guilt” for “thousands more Austin Metcalfs.”

This thread and the piece at the end are incredible. SCOTUS ruled just before 1am and Chris wrote a thread through the night and published a full, polished analysis at 4:41am.

I must note that Chris wrote this on the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride — to the hour.
BREAKING: SCOTUS orders the government not to remove anyone from the United States under Trump’s Alien Enemies Act proclamation who is a part of the potential class in the Northern District of Texas case until further order of the court.

Only Thomas and Alito note their dissent.

The failure of libertarians to pick the right side in this has exposed their whole thought system. A principled libertarian attack on limiting government overreach would be welcome at this time. Put no such thing exists. Libertarian just means selfish.

Today I received a "rescission of termination" letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

I will be receiving backpay, and will be paid while on administrative leave.

How much taxpayer money has been wasted? Where's the efficiency?

The "Beyonce giving up her 2009 'Video of the Year' speech time so Taylor Swift could finish her speech" to "Taylor presenting Beyonce with the 2025 Country album award the same year Bey finally wins Album of the Year" 15-year story arch is incredible.

Sounds like Shonda wrote this out herself.

This NPR podcast episode title feels both appropriate and scarily dystopian.

Y'all learned "passive voice" because of reporting on Gaza and now y'all are going to drive that term into the ground too.

American consumerism + social media - media literacy = "Every single word of every article I read should be perfect even before all the information is available."
a driver used a pickup truck as a weapon to attack dozens of people in new orleans this morning and the news reflexively uses the passive voice to avoid explaining this

Me thinks the general public likes to forget about Bush because it lets us forget the wars we're collectively responsible for.

And 2000 election voters are too mad at themselves for passing up on Al Gore, so they just absolve themselves of the responsibility.

We could've had clean water!
Something I think about his how thoroughly George W Bush has disappeared from the American consciousness and history. He didn’t quite have a Trump-level of cultish devotion on the right, but pretty close! He was a Great Man of History.
