text me when you have a gap in the schedule and i'll send you an unhinged three-minute note about mass markets and accessibility and price points and building readership and also they should all have bodice ripper covers even the literary fiction books

In addition to short fiction, also open to poetry aimed at a middle grade and YA readership.

Haven’t posted much here in my Scholastic capacity (kid and Clifford for the algo), but I’m an editor at SCOPE and assigning short stories and Flash fiction and more, paid, to middle grade and YA authors. If you’re interested, reach out. We’re assigning 2026 now. #writers #authors #middlegrade

Jeff Bezos might have built a spaceship, but indie bookstores build and nurture whole communities and that is *way* more impressive and valuable.

Because while fighting each other might feel good in the moment, it:

- Exhausts you
- Exhausts the other party
- Which (arguably) chips away at our ability to unify
- And that's the last thing we need right now.

There are a lot of things Dems need to be doing, and fighting each other isn't it.

Or am I doing this because I want to feel a certain way?

Are there better things I can be doing to help save the republic? Are there candidates I can support? Can I call my reps? Can I stop book bans in my local community?

Can I inform myself further - e.g. on Vought?

And that's why I'm going to ask all of you right now, especially for those of you that are also on Threads, too:

Before you respond on social media over something you see which causes you to feel a certain way: ask yourself - will responding that way help at all?

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

there is a moment like this in sophie jordan's historical romance novel THE DUKE EFFECT that made me laugh so hard that i still remember it despite reading the book four years ago. i can't remember the names of people i met yesterday but i can tell you about that scene!

The “I’m only feeling fluttery around you because of a love potion and NO OTHER REASON” level of denial is hilarious and the actor delivers it perfectly in this kdrama (Destined With You).

Anyone have a book rec like this?

I am once again begging big 5 publishers to invest in rebuilding book media by starting their own newspapers/journals/magazines. That plus helping keep indie bookstores open would do so goddamn much for the industry

I will never stop banging this drum -- publishers (honestly anyone distributing creative work rn), need to try something new! bring back the atrophied part of their marketing brains that involves something other than "post through it"
gwillow.me
In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.

Okay, gay-little-people-in-my-computer:
I'm looking for book recommendations. Or rather, FICTION recommendations. Totally normal about Wheel of Time, enjoy KA Applegate's YA fiction, loved most of the pulpy Conan novels, really liked Dresden Files, love stories like Beware of Chicken.

Lay it on me.

Looking for book recommendations!

I've read the following:
📘 Atomic Habits
👟 Shoe Dog (my favorite)
🧀 Who Moved My Cheese?
📱 Hooked (currently reading)

Based on my reading history, what book would you recommend?
nebrinkley.bsky.social
correct: new as in new to break out, not new as in, like, debut!
