This kind of harassment and abuse of scholars is Charlie Kirk's legacy and it's only getting worse.

Honestly having a character like this is fine as long as you aren’t applying the Poochie rules and having real conflicts and character flaws going on.

Maybe Poochie is the true sin that lives in the Mary Sue trope.

And not even I’m immune. I just caught myself thinking that Ancient Magus’ Bride has some Mary Sue vibes, but I like it anyway, and wondering why that is.

And this is coming from someone who has seen a lot of bad self-insert characters in fanfiction.

I’m thinking that we need a less sexist way to refer to the difference between the bad kind of obnoxious “everyone likes and wants to be near this cool author/audience self-insert” and better writing

Honestly I’m really coming around to the idea that the term “Mary Sue” should die a horrible death.

Marty Stus are far more common, but nobody calls this shit out for male protagonists because it’s fucking expected.
