It is firmly in the “somebody’s making an active decision to downplay this” territory.
I count 49 news headlines on the NYT mobile app home page right now, not including opinion, sports or cooking. None of them are about the massive protests yesterday.

This stand-alone item is inaccurate, @nytimes.com. In the widely viewed video Padilla loudly and clearly identifies himself from the beginning.

The whole trans girls in sports discussion is absolutely being used to propagandize people into being transphobic bellends.

In K-12, the number of trans girls in sports is five.
In college the number is fewer than ten, according to the NCAA President.

You're being manipulated. Please stop.
What amuses me is that Gavin Newsome could have probably ridden this shit all the way to the White House if he’d kept his yap close about trans girls in sports. Now no matter what he does in response to this Trump manufactured crisis, all I’ll ever think is “you raised a kid who likes Charlie Kirk.”

1. The US Transgender Survey has finally been released, and the results are stunning.

- <1% of people are less satisfied after HRT.
- The most common reason for detransition, pausing transition, or stopping transition is transphobia.

The latest from S. Baum.

Largest Trans Survey Ever: Top Reason Trans People Stop Transitioning Is Transphobia
“In almost every single case, the reason was anti-trans discrimination in the form of pressure to ‘detransition’ from one’s family, friends, or community.”

Today is Red Dress Day - a day to remember and honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls & Two-Spirit people.

The red dress is a symbol of those taken and a call to all for urgent action for justice and change.

Today, and every day we remember.

What I think was *really* beneficial about Hands Off is that people need to see (in real life) that they’re not alone.

In-person events and marches can really fill up people’s fighting tanks, so to speak. And this regime has handed us a really really long, tedious, and difficult fight.

The rhetorical victory is this: the proposal that we can and will outlast them.
Breaking: Cory Booker has officially delivered the longest Senate floor speech in US history, surpassing Strom Thurmond’s filibuster against the Civil Rights Act.

Today I saw a doctor put a mask on to see us… no asking. He saw a mask, he wore a mask.

Doesn’t sound like much, but it still meant a lot.

Three years ago, three other reporters and I ID'd and called any school accused of having litter boxes for furries.

We found one (1) in the entire country: Columbine's school district.

Cat litter was for a "go bucket," in case kids were locked in during a shooting.

Fox News reported that JD Vance had to move to an “undisclosed location” due to protests at the Vermont resort where he’s skiing this weekend. For inflicting misery on the world and here at home in America, this is exactly the energy that should greet Vance wherever he goes for the rest of his days.

Here is the pre-RFK vaccination schedule for your kids. Please download it before he is confirmed and changes/deletes it.

Give it to your pediatrician and say this is the schedule you want your kids on.

Making this my pinned post.

Got a library card today and feel very much reassured in my belief that few things are as much bang for buck as library cards.

I get not only free books but I get access to paywalled newspapers, and a "library of things" where I can check out soldering irons or hobby telescopes!

Hooray libraries!

A lot of people reply to moments like this by saying “they won’t stop with trans people” but…what if they do? That doesn’t make this less violent and evil. While you may not be intending to say so, there is an underlying implication there that the *real* violence is still to come. And that’s not ok.
Let’s be really clear, THIS IS NOT ABOUT SPORTS. This is about *violence* against Trans women. This is about enforcing hate as public policy. This is pure evil.
