I have a blog now. It's still a little rough around the edges with few posts, but I blog about #photography, the books I read and the movies I watch, #translation (particularly poetry), and stuff that interests me in the news, especially anything related to #japan.

It's essentially the MS version of a Chromebook. I picked one up a few years ago when my ThinkPad needed a repair and I had to travel for work. My HS-aged son now uses it to do schoolwork. The build quality is good, but it has fewer ports than a Mac.
Microsoft’s latest 13-inch Surface Laptop is down to just $549.99. That’s a great price for a solid all-around laptop www.theverge.com/gadgets/8301...

New technologies almost always have the potential to be disruptive, but LLMs seem to be aimed at being destructive. Particularly of "trust." No technologically mediated interaction or experience is trustworthy anymore.

Fukui, which I've been connected to for 30 years, is a relatively small prefecture of 800,000 people. A relative recently retired from prefectural government. I can only wonder what she experienced during her years there.

Thankfully the used bookstore close to me (Canada's largest) has a great selection of (remaindered) cookbooks. And there's also YouTube.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.
