Today we're launching our #GreenwayFlushedAway campaign.
🚽😱 384 days since Thames Water shut Newham's ONLY safe north/south cycleway
❌🤕 4 years of danger, at least 4 injuries—and it'll get worse
🪧💩 Tell Thames: no more closures until they pay for a safe diversion!

🚆 BBC London finds bike theft at train stations has become almost 'decriminalised: bit.ly/4q5WNzk

LCC CEO, Tom Fyans: "Many victims of theft in the capital just stop cycling - if we want to reduce car trips in London and encourage cycling we have to redouble enforcement against cycle theft."
Bike thefts at stations 'decriminalised'
The British Transport Police will not investigate many categories of bicycle theft, the BBC learns.

Yes, this matches what we saw on Wednesday evening - the sharp angle of entry means it's not immediately obvious you can enter. We've asked for signage at the entry to be tweaked. In any case they have told us they expect the works will complete on Monday.

London exclusive: Competition between big money e-bike operators has hit the point where Hackney residents will now get flat fare £1.75 journeys within the borough, with Lime and Voi winning a contract that predicts *up to £93m* in revenue from one borough. www.londoncentric.media/p/lime-bike-...
E-bike fares capped at £1.75 in Hackney — could the rest of London be next?

YouGov survey of 1,000+ Londoners, post-tube strike said 1/5 cycled during strikes, 1/4 will now cycle more, with ~35% of central & East Londoners embracing cycling. Those areas tend to have more safe cycle routes generally than other areas of London currently.

1 in 4 Londoners more likely to cycle after Tube strike
A poll by Lime and YouGov found that 28 per cent of Londoners are more likely to consider cycling in the future due to the disruption

Silvertown Way? Those blocks on that stretch have been problematic for years - amazingly it’s better than it was(!) but still not great.

We’ve just checked with Newham Council’s head of network and he’s been told by the contractor that the nearside lane should now have been coned off as a temporary track (in both directions apparently). If you could report back next time you pass through that would be great. Thx

Two screenshots of BBC articles about floating bus stops, the picture editors have inadvertently used the same image to illustrate what one is, and what one isn't. The most recent article shows the wrong type, the one that isn't under DfT/TfL review, twice www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It's been quite a weekend, with 'that big pedestrian trial' (west of centre) and this fantastic, newly-opened route #RoyalDocksCorridor in Newham! Teamwork in action: vision, planning, funding, building to opening and enjoying! @willnorman.co.uk @newhamcouncil.bsky.social @newhamcyclists.uk

What an extraordinary transformation on the #RoyalDocksCorridor! A 4-lane racetrack for cars becomes a street for people. We attended a celebration event today with the project managers, builders, councillors, Mayor of Newham, and @willnorman.co.uk in attendance. Congratulations to all involved! 🎉

They aren’t just flower beds!!!

Fascinating peak beneath the surface of one of London’s new Cycleways - you can see the complex drainage system that ensures bike lanes help protect the capital from heavy rain & the effects of climate change.

And don’t they look great when they’re finished? 💚🚲👍

it absolutely is - and it's going to get better!

Absolutely brilliant to open the Royal Docks Corridor this morning.

The GLA & Newham teams have transformed this dangerous industrial road into a wonderful new public space - complete with a fab cycle lane, crossings, new lighting, beautiful planting and flood resilience.

Funnily enough, @jamesasser.bsky.social mentioned today "why should nice things only be in central or west London? Why can't we have nice things in east London?" And now we have west London looking on in envy 😉

Bianca Dos Santos was crushed by a lorry crossing the notorious Battersea Bridge in August 2023.
Two years later, in sentencing the driver, the presiding judge has said she "contributed to her own death": www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/news/2544526...
LCC's Women's Network responds... 1/4
A group of women on pavement on Battersea Bridge in foreground holding up a black banner with white text saying "Make Battersea Bridge safe for cycling" as a large group of cyclists ride past in the road next to them. Text from LCC's Women's Network reads:
"A 27 year old woman, Bianca dos Santos, was killed cycling over Battersea Bridge in August 2023. This month, the HGV driver who pleaded guilty to causing her death by careless driving was given a suspended sentence and two year ban for failing to check his mirrors and being distracted both by his cab console and a phone call. Yet the presiding judge said dos Santos “contributed to her own death” by riding up the inside of the lorry, as traffic moved forward slowly.
“The Highway Code says clearly that people cycling can pass stationary or slower-moving traffic on the left - dos Santos was cycling legally and sensibly. The issue here is, as is too often the case, not just a distracted driver but the dangerous conditions for cycling on Battersea Bridge. Rather than blame dos Santos, or cyclists, the judge should blame TfL, Kensington & Chelsea and Wandsworth councils for inaction that means thousands of cyclists who use this bridge daily continue to face dangerous conditions.”

Great presentation by the LCC Women's Network at the 2025 London Walking, Wheeling and Cycling Conference. Well done Kate! 👏

Reminder: London's Cycleways need to be routed through safe places - eg not parks - to work for everyone 24/7 🚨
