He/him
Or maybe with a bit of the older version of Harry Enfield’s “Tim Nice But Dim”? Either way, he gives the impression of a man utterly devoid of gorm.

Um, is Mark Mitchell trying to say that a quarter of the population "often…may be offending"? And that the only reason not to trust police is if one is a criminal?

That’s more like it, Wellington! Doesn’t need to be any hotter than this: 21°C with light winds and clear skies is just perfect.

I just got a stab of cognitive dissonance between the thoughtful, melancholy nature of my dinner-time reading and the self-indulgent nature of my actual dinner.

And a more representative moment.

Snapshots from a holiday.

It took a while of digging through the inevitable U2, Eagles and Cat Stevens records at this bach, but I eventually found the good stuff.

Has he reached “embattled” yet?

You can’t make me!

I appear to have stumbled into the Minecraft universe.

Hydrocotyle is easily overlooked and often treated as a weed, but I have a soft spot for it since there are several native species that pop up in lawns and other places with little native vegetation. I was recently excited to see H. dissecta for the first time, in Fensham’s Reserve near Carterton.

Just updated my Wellington region walking map. Major walks completed in 2025: Mangaone valley, non-SH2 routes between Masterton/Carterton and Greytown/Featherston, the beach between Ōtaki/Waikawa/Ohau, and tentative inroads into the Orongorongo ranges.

My YouTube Recap for 2025 produced some surprising and/or dubious summaries, but I’m pretty happy with its music selection.

I thought I’d be extra decadent by swanning about in my new-to-me vintage robe de chambre, but it’s already too hot to be wearing velvet. At least the colours are Christmassy!

I normally have jam on bread for an at-home breakfast, but Xmas called for something fancier (and Fresh Choice has no decent bread last night). Muesli with Kāpiti summer plum yoghurt, fresh fruit, my ever-evolving mix of sweet nuts & goodies, and Lewis Road strawberries and cream milk.

I survived a 25km walk in Wairarapa heat, Xeno’s train journey, and last-minute supermarket shopping so that I have something to eat for breakfast tomorrow. Now I’ve poured myself a G&T the size of my head and put my feet up. Meri XmasFestivusSaturnalia, everyone!

“Louie, have you finished the signage for our, ah, ‘legitimate business’?”

“Sure boss, real discrete, just like you asked.”

But then after an hour of intermittent sun showers in Masterton, it’s fine and stinking hot (well, 25°C).

For a while, looking out of the train windows turned into the “two sides of the bus” meme.

Not the most encouraging start to a walking holiday.
