That time Collins was being interviewed at a party conference type thing by tv journos, on camera, about some scandal or other and she decided to deflect by trying to tip them a yarn about a journalist who they should really be investigating

That’s more like it, Wellington! Doesn’t need to be any hotter than this: 21°C with light winds and clear skies is just perfect.

The UK version of “Project 2025” by the Reform party includes a British ICE, a concentration camp for 24,000 people, mass surveillance and withdrawing from refugee, anti-torture and anti-trafficking conventions.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.

I'm gonna make a database of people who are kind, generous, and good in bed and make sure everyone knows.
TOM HOMAN: “We’re going to create a database where those people that are arrested for interference, impeding and assault, we’re going to make them famous. We’re going to put their face on TV. We’re going to let their employers, in their neighborhoods, in their schools, know who these people are.”

We don’t need to make an effort to hear right wing views. We get them from our relatives, from newspaper headlines, from Government Policy Statements.
"getting outside your bubble" is an admirable thing when it means trying a new hobby or introducing yourself to your neighbor or watching an art film but people only want to apply it to "being a little more racist just to see how it feels"
these people seem like idiots

Among all the hype and bullshit it's nice to see the occasional "oh that's useful" story about machine learning.

Honestly "AI" is a category error and we should bring back discrete terms like "machine vision".

webRios is live. #rstats on your iPhone and iPad.

I showed native R compilation on #iOS last week. Shipping it is another story (thanks, GPL). This version uses #webR 's #WebAssembly build instead. Different tradeoffs, but this one clears App Review.

Twice this week when meeting a new person I've gotten an excited "Wow, it must be an exciting time to be a political scientist!" and both times I've answered "Not really. That's like telling someone it's an exciting to be a surgeon when there's a 63 car pileup on the highway."

I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

And it is a result that happened because of particular decisions by particular people who are accountable for the consequences.

It’s -25C in MSP and people are filling the light rail to attend a protest against ICE.
Public transport and resisting fascism bringing people together. 🥹
1. The light rail is never this busy
2. Minnesotans are, by and large, not a people who are inclined to whoop and woo in the middle of the day without there being a sports based reason.

Definitely a huge day in Minneapolis.
I'm on the Green Line towards downtown Minneapolis ICE OUT protest.

The train filled immediately. Even 20 stops away from our destination we reached capacity.

People are cheering at every stop when they see people waiting to board because we are all starting to realize how big this is.
