Our last fundraising film for the year (probably?) is happening next Friday 10 October. We've got classic comedy with The Birdcage (1996). Hosted by drag legend Ellie Kat, old school gay camp needs a deserving location, so where better than Scotty & Mal's?

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

to all the Labour mps on here can you tell your leader we need a commitment to reverse the Jobseekers policy that National has just introduced. Thats not giving your policy away that is exercising basic humanity and getting rid of very poorly formulated policy. Just say it. Come on.

Last night I saw a FB post from Julie Anne Genter supporting Tory as she finishes up as mayor. The nasty & abusive comments from men towards both women were revolting. It's a mirror into what men really think of women as a whole. They're not afraid of consequences either bc there are largely none.

"The trove of secret documents from the Portsmouth meetings had been accidentally donated to a Hutt Valley Salvation Army store."

Whoo boy. I'm sure the officer with distinctively neat handwriting won't lose their job over this.

Wellingtonians - Are you interested?

An hour of unlimited play on the machines at Ye Olde Pinball Shoppe before regular opening hours on a Sunday from 10-11 am. N95 or better masks to be worn at all times and there is an air purifier. $20/person and we need 25 people to make the event happen.
The graphic has a violet background and white text. The text reads: Wellingtonians are you interested? Pinball wizards aren't required, but a mask is. Dividing the text is a photograph of the interior of an empty pinball arcade. There are also small graphic images of an N95 mask, and Aotearoa Covid Action's logo.

The standard in law (which lawyers are actually being sanctioned for violating) is that including a citation is an explicit claim that you, *personally*, have checked the citation, it says what you are claiming, and it hasn't been overridden by later decisions.

It's not the first time that I'm seeing this

I'm afraid that hallucinated citations is an issue that scientists and experts will have to deal with from now on

And here we go. I never wrote this article, and yet it is cited here.

And of course, it sounds so plausible, I seriously checked whether I had forgotten it, or the footnote was slightly wrong.

Not the main point, but when you're missing ~20 yr of data, I think you should just leave it blank.

Iit could be that it rose for the next five years, then plummeted and kept going! Maybe it's roughly linear! Maybe something else.

I mean, it's rising in the 1970s: you sure it pivoted RIGHT THERE?

Gallup has been surveying Americans' trust in legacy media since 1972. This year, a mere 28 percent of the public have "a great deal" or "a fair amount" of trust in legacy media, its lowest level in more than five decades of tracking.
