Goniatite fossils spiraling through space in this worn down sedimentary shore stone.
These are the fossilized shells left on the sea floor that covered this place over 300 million years ago.

We followed up #ESAEuclid's near-infrared image of the Dark Cloud LDN 1641 with a comparison to the NIR 2MASS survey, and to a bespoke ground-based image in visible light.

The Very Large Array, part of The National Radio Astronomy Observatory, was formally dedicated #OTD in 1980.

Through a gravitational lens effect caused by a massive foreground cluster of galaxies (MACS J0138), multiple images of a perfectly aligned background galaxy (MRG-M0138) are created, including the supernova Encore it hosts. This image was captured by JWST in 2023.

Like storm clouds rolling over the horizon, a series of new active regions have rotated into view on the Sun this week. So far we’ve seen 10 moderate solar flares in 5 days, with the chance of stronger flares possible. #spaceweather

Dusty, barred spiral galaxy NGC 1365. Interestingly, the dust bar isn't nearly as prominent as it is in visible light. In the center is a modest active galactic nucleus (AGN). The circumnuclear dust is also quite striking. This time, I was happy to receive the PHANGS team's reduction of the data. Makes it much easier because their mosaic was much better matched and aligned. Red (screen layer mode): MIRI F2100W Orange: MIRI F1130W Cyan: MIRI F770W Extra overall brightness in grayscale: MIRI F1000W North is not up.

Another star trail image made a with time-lapse sequence photographed by Kimiya Yui from ISS. All images in the sequence were restored, remastered then retimed using frame interpolation for a short film. These new frames allowed for a simulated long exposure photograph.

A sharp view of a very dusty spiral galaxy. The center glows with a pale but warm yellowish light with two prominent arms of brown dust encircling it. Multiple pockets of blue stars are visible between the spiraling lanes of dust, and a smooth, soft blue halo of light fades to darkness at the edge of the galaxy as the stars and dust become more sparse. A few orangey background galaxies are visible through the dust. The scene is almost absent of Milky Way stars, making it a very clear view of the galaxy.

Star trails from a few years back at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park. This was looking North towards Orlando and, let me tell you, the Christmas season air traffic was not a joy to deal with when I stacked these exposures.
