It'll be wild when Charlotte Church reveals she's been pretending to be Welsh this entire time #TheTraitorsUK #CelebrityTraitors

The producers must have spent the first night redoing the rest of the puzzles once they saw how good Nick Muhammad is at them. #CelebrityTraitors

this is an explicitely nazi administration and anyone who still supports them should be viewed as such

Incredible.

Jack Posobiec references the earliest version of antifa -- the anti-fascists in the Weimar Republic who were opposed to the Nazi Party -- as the bad guys.

#CelebrityTraitors continues the series' commitment to the musical genre of overly dramatic cover versions.

Jonathan's going to be sussed out as a traitor very quickly becauae he just can't shut up. #CelebrityTraitors

Really hoping they find some convoluted way to reference Celia's appearance in Highlander (she's Connor's girlfriend who tries to get him burnt at the stake in his home village) #CelebrityTraitors

People obviously haven't watched Weird and understood how much all modern lyricists owe to Al Yankovic.

I wanted to do a "which Game Of Thrones character are you?" which would answer either "nameless peasant" or "nameless dead peasant" (with a very slim chance of "nameless minor nobility (probably dead)"

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

"What's the tone for this photoshoot? Friendly and wholesome, or Midsommar?"
"Yes."

Tory party conference got you down?

Far-right rhetoric left you feeling scared for the future?

Then why not take a minute to enjoy eighteen (18) pictures of Ed Davey on a pumpkin farm with young carers 🎃🚜

Also think there's room for a Who episode about why there's not a Battle of Salisbury Plain in our history (James II's nosebleeds were obviously something to do with aliens).

Said for years that there's an excellent historical drama series waiting to be made that starts from the death of Charles II. Bonus points for getting a non-British company to do it, then watching the tabloids complain about them making up an invasion.

been reading about the glorious revolution and it’s funny that this event that looms so large in the history of British parliamentary govt and thus world liberal democracy was straightforwardly the Dutch doing a regime change as part of their geopolitical struggle against France

I'm British, I'm regularly told on Bluesky my entire diet is perverted and/or wrongly named.

Dubai etc appeal to the wealthy because they're Wilhoit's Law in physical form: a playground for the rich to do whatever they like while the poor who make it possible are kept mostly out of sight and (sometimes literally) bound.

The UAE is an authoritarian autocracy, a petro-state with no income tax for citizens, to bribe them for the lack of democratic voice or free speech

It is 85% migrant, a segregated society with a ban on integration in principle and practice, few rights, equal opportunities, nor voice for incomers
nickbwalking.bsky.social
The value here might be "unthinking deference to the wealthy" which was kind of still around when I was young (1 year older than him). But their general love of Dubai etc is that it's a rich man's playground where the poor are kept out of sight.

A new copy in stock, thank you autocorrect. (I mean, it might well be in Stockport if they have a warehouse there)
nickbwalking.bsky.social
Just ordered a physical book from Amazon (in my defence, they were the only place with a new copy in Stockport and being sold at RRP) and can't actually remember the last time I bought one from them.

Yes, I think it's a long term process, perhaps also influenced by Blair very consciously coming the competence/"what works" principle. Then add in Coalition meaning people were demanding a "proper Conservative" government post-2015.
nickbwalking.bsky.social
Possibly with the rise of Portillo, Lilley etc under Major? A consequence of the way Thatcherism fell rather than Thatcherism itself, they could now represent themselves the inheritors of an ideological tradition.
nickbwalking.bsky.social
It's more prevalent on the right because they're often in a milieu that treats their beliefs as self-evidently correct while everything else is "ideological".
nickbwalking.bsky.social
"Let's take the politics out of this" is a common argument from Conservatives but whoever uses it, they're always saying "let's all agree with me."

Such a classic part of the Right's outlook better known as Simplism.

Summarised: 'Life and policy is actually simple - it's the complicators on the other side who make it complicated to stop/slow down change they don't like'.

I hear Reform UK in Kent have just learned reality the hard way.

Is BBC News still in a partnership with CBS? (I csn find details of it being agreed and think I heard it mentioned on-air recently, but can't find out for sure)
