If any candidate who thinks they might lose can launch a preemptive lawsuit attacking a state’s election rules, won’t this just turn every election into a chaotic vortex of competing lawsuits?

SEOUL, Jan 13 (Reuters) - South Korea's special prosecutor on Tuesday requested the death penalty for former president Yoon Suk Yeol on charges of insurrection over his brief imposition of martial law in December 2024.

With a national culture this paranoid, insecure and reactionary, we need to fully eradicate “reasonable fear” as a legal standard for murderous self-defense.

Rep. @AOC: I understand that Vance believes shooting a young mother of three in the face three times is an acceptable America that he wants to live in, and I do not. That is a fundamental difference between Vance and I. I do not believe that the American people should be assassinated in the street.

The chair behind the president’s desk in the Oval Office should be electrified, and we should all have an app on our phones that lets us vote once a day whether to flip the switch. If 2/3rds vote yes, the president is toast.

I guess it’s good to know that if I am ever murdered by an ICE agent, they’ll spin it so I sound way more badass and heroic than I actually am.

“Suspect was not, in fact, an unarmed coward fleeing in fear for his life, he was actually an extremely dangerous & handsome revolutionary!”

It's so fucking convenient that they get to "fear for their lives" anytime they want to absolve themselves of anything and when we actually fear for our lives because of them and do anything a scared person would do it's justification for our death.

What incentive do democratic-led states have to continue as part of the United States, aside from fear of military invasion? In what ways do they benefit at all from being donor states to a federal gov’t that actively hate them even as they’re the beating heart & brain of the national economy?
“Minnesota, New York, California, Illinois and Colorado will be cut off from around $7 billion in funding for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, which provides cash assistance to households with children, according to two people familiar with the matter.”

Monstrously cruel.

Stephen Miller is Trump’s most important and influential aide because he channels and shares the president’s worldview. His cold-blooded assessment that might makes right is the one immutable law of history and is now the guiding concept behind US foreign policy…

Outraged by the Jan. 6 riot, a vigilante spent years undercover climbing the ranks of right-wing militias. He didn’t tell police or the FBI. He didn’t tell family or friends. The one person he told was a ProPublica reporter.

Except Trump immediately sabotaged this (false) argument by declaring himself in charge of Venezuela & promising to annex the oil reserves for American oil companies.
Vance pushes back and says this was not illegal, arguing "Maduro has multiple indictments in the United States for narcoterrorism. You don't get to avoid justice for drug trafficking in the United States because you live in a palace in Caracas."
