"Spain’s rapid renewables build-out means its power prices were set by fossil generation just 19% of the time, down from 75% in 2019. As a result, wholesale electricity was almost a third cheaper than the EU average"

Imagine having cheaper power

Spain’s Renewable-Energy Boom Loosens Gas’s Grip on Power Prices
Soaring renewables output in Spain is weakening gas’s grip on electricity prices, setting the country apart from much of Europe where fossil fuels still dictate the cost of power.

Spain is a “rare bright spot among Europe’s otherwise drearily performing economies” thanks in part to cheap renewable energy and immigration.

But it must combine immigration-led growth with productivity improvements

South Australia's electricity mix over the past three days. Wind and solar have produced enough electricity to cover all of the state's power needs.

California is the one outlier state - in every other state with a high share of renewables, prices are below the national average. Not so in California partly because wildfire costs are passed through in tariffs

A power outage hit Prague and large sections of Czechia (aka the Czech Republic) today. Czechia's electricity mix is mostly coal and nuclear, so expect silence from the opinionators who instantly, incorrectly blamed the Iberian blackout on renewables/lack of inertia

www.euractiv.com/section/eet/...
Plot of Czechia's electrical energy generation by year. Coal and nuclear comprise about 80% of the energy generated in 2024.

Trump’s tax bill will cost the bottom 20% of taxpayers an average of $560 a year while giving a boost of $6,055 to those at the top end, according to Yale University economists.

The EU should get to about 65% renewable electricity by 2030, and 25% nuclear, so that means 90% clean by the end of the decade
