If you live in a historic neighborhood, you should also have to wear period costume and drive in period cars (if there were any)
Historic designations are being weaponized to stop housing in the same way environmental regulations were.

In either case, policymakers need to recognize abuse of these well-intentioned policies and change the law to prevent it.
More SF neighborhoods want to be ‘historic.’ YIMBYs are upset
Neighborhoods seeking historic status have become the latest flashpoint in the intense debate over building more housing in California.

I've said it often, but libraries are, without hyperbole, one of the greatest things humans have ever done. Like ever.

I mapped the over 500 SB 9 projects that broke ground last year in the City of LA. 92% of them in the Valley. Almost no lot splits.

Each pin has a link to the permit - there's a lot of variation in the kinds of projects. Adding a second house, building a new duplex, adding a house + ADU...

Mayor Bass updates re: Pali + Eaton rebuild efforts

-- self certification program (for fire rebuild only? Or all LA🤞?)
-- AI to streamline permitting process...
-- no planning or permit fees (for fire affected residents?)

cautiously optimistic!

The history of Earth as the length of a human’s outstretched arm - representing 4.5 billion years of time.

At this scale, humans emerged so recently that we could be filed off from a microscopic slice at the very tip of a fingernail.

LA's single-stair motion has been adopted!

And I very much appreciate these quotes from two moms of young kids on our council. More family-sized housing please!

People genuinely think you can preserve the culture of a place simply by refusing to ever change the built environment.

They fail to realize that forcibly holding a place in the past like that is itself a significant and unique disturbance in the housing market that creates unique incentives.
Also I had a real Median Voter moment with an old queen who expressed outrage about how there are people who oppose historic districting in principle and then immediately pivoted to complaining about how Greenwich Village is being entirely taken over by boring rich people with bad taste.
