I am pleased to announce that I will steal high quality Venezuelan crude for the benefit of me, my friends, my family and my supporters.
Anything that is left will be for the Venezuelan people.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Enjoying Amartya Sen's memoir, Home in the World, this holiday period. Part autobiography, part 20th C history of India incl the Raj & partition, part intellectual history of India over the millenia And, 250 pages in, have yet to get to his own contributions! Great antidote to Premier Smith

A long time coming.

This was posted over at linkedin from Min Nikolaides. It appears to be genuine. My reaction over there?
Gobsmacked. One more reason for recall for those in his riding with an opportunity to sign. The ground? Failing to represent all faiths and non-believers in his constituency.

The second part of my catch-up reading was the Gitxaala (BCCA) dealing with the map staking of mineral claims in BC, the duty to consult (DTC) Indigenous nations and UNDRIP.. Turns out there’s a connection betwn the Secession case and Gitxaala!. 1/4

It took me a week to get to it but I'm enjoying reading Justice Feasby's judgment from last week on the secession referendum initiative. Lots of zingers sprinkled throughout the judgment but I particularly liked this one: #ableg #abpoli 2025 ABQB 712

This last week the UCP in Alberta adopted, in short order, amendments to its own much vaunted Citizen Initiative Act.
Those amendments took effect today with royal assent.
Unless I am missing something this also kills Corb Lund's "no coal" petition unless he re-files.

A nice day to ski at YYC's Confederation Park earlier today with great grooming by Foothills Nordic; and paid online for our family pass for the season - $75, such a deal!

And i love the "waffle" commentary i.e. we used to like but now we find that we don't so we're going to change the rules - yet again.

MLA Rakhi Pancholi captures the essence of Bill 14. From Hansard, second reading last night.

True. But Corb can't proceed until the next step is completed (appointment & approval of a CFO) and if that doesn't happen before Bill 14 comes into force the petition dies & Corb will need to start again. The new s 71.1 turns on s 3(3) of the Act not the s 3(2) decision made yesterday.

And this image, with its bilingual text and formal mounting, is the image of treaty-making - which supports your narrative and further legitimates (and IMO unfortunately so) Alberta's claim to exceptionalism.
A disturbing precedent.

It was a wet and muddy day in the upper Highwood, but I reckon that there were betwn 60 & 80 folks who showed up in enthusiastic defence of the eastern slopes - not from coal this time but clearcut logging.
Good to see old friends and make new contacts.

I spent Friday night at the Strawberry Camp and then today at “The Wall” to support the protest organized by Defenders of the Eastern Slopes against logging in the Highwood and Loomis Creek areas - listed critical habitat for endangered bull trout.
Solidarity.

Bill C 2 overrides the Charter. It also overrides Alberta's Bill of Rights. Here's what the GoA said about that less than a year ago.
