Narration: It was really hard for me to think of what to draw for this theme because I'm at a place in my career where I'll draw anything for a biscuit.

Page 2. Narration: I... isn't this so HETERONORMATIVE and BORING? I used to be so smug about my niche tastes, and now I'm nothing special!!! But it was a big deal for me to get here.

Flashback to a few years ago where I'm sobbing in front of a mirror, my hair short. I think "GOD I really treat myself like SHIT! I don't treat myself like a person let alone a girl. I just treat myself like some THING! (I was so cute with short hair tho.)

I had received plenty of this growing up, but now as an adult I found myself alone holding the whip. (Where did everyone go?) And I wanted out.

In images of beautiful girls I saw a personhood not afforded to me. I hated them, but I wanted to be them. Like Prometheus, I wanted to poach that divine flame. Panels show grainy classical images of girls with long hair, pretty dresses, skinny limbs, etc.

Page 3. So I made new stories. I drew up these women that didn't exist outside of me. They existed because of me. Drawing is kinda based in this way. From your hand to the line and back into your brain, it becomes possible to craft a new relationship with yourself. (drawing porn especially is really good for this)

Page 4. To be clear, it would be wrong to say I uncovered some primal truth or became emancipated from the social order and history which stripped me of my personhood in the first place. Any wounds I've endured are alive and well within me. And I want to ask: why heal at all? (And heal into what?) Panel shows Botticelli's venus with a gash in her stomach.

Ultimately what I did was decide to show an interest in myself. To become instrumental in my pleasure as well as my misery. Panel shows me walking home on my street.
