On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved African Americans learned they were free.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth. A milestone and a reminder that progress demands persistence.

We reflect on how far we’ve come, and recognize how far we still have to go to achieve true equality.

This development is welcome news - but it is limited and temporary. We will not rest until IMLS and its funding are fully restored. #ForOurLibraries (2/2)

I see a lot of Dems meming on 🍊 voters waking up from the lies.

Friends, that's how you force them back into their bubble. That's how you lose opportunity.

Now is the time to embrace them, shake hands, commiserate, and form a united movement.

The more 🍊 loses his base, the more his power erodes.

Libraries play a critical, if informal, role in employment & training by providing internet access and connecting people with career resources in their communities. Plus, obviously, materials that help people improve their knowledge! So it's extra gross the deputy secretary of labor is gutting IMLS.
For @us.theguardian.com, I interviewed librarians about the impact of Trump’s administration, including the Institute of Museum and Library Services being gutted, experiences at work, & the incredible importance of library resources, programming, and support: “We get everyone at the library.”
Being a librarian was already hard. Then came the Trump administration
Already facing burnout and book bans, librarians face a ‘catastrophe’ for institutions deemed central to democracy

Same thing, but information, community building, preservation, and memory work.

I hope everyone makes it through this era of uncaring and manipulative politics intact.

Yeah... Its not enough that they are destroying the economy and attempting to eliminate my profession. Now they are invalidating my family's identity. Great. When will this nightmare end?
With the help of four Democrats, House Republicans just voted to pass H.R. 22 — one of the biggest threats to voting rights that we’ve seen in a generation. If you’re represented by Reps. Case (HI-01), Cuellar (TX-28), Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03), or Golden (ME-02), they need to hear from you today.

My work behaving similarly to this library. We are entirety funded through LSTA funding distributed through IMLS. We are also not allowed to address this crisis directly on our repository or social platforms.
Trump cut federal funding for libraries.

April 6 is the start of #NationalLibraryWeek. Currently, we’re under attack so this week would be a great time to call your reps and tell them what libraries mean to you. Fill up their inboxes.
