Magnets could increase the rate of water splitting in microgravity by up to 240% over unmodified devices, potentially producing substantially more oxygen for astronauts, according to a proof-of-concept study published in Nature Chemistry. go.nature.com/3HIK0kR 🧪

Cool map. I've seen these for US/UK but not Germany.

Keep in mind that the solar PV hectares are probably producing *40-100x* the useable energy per hectare vs. the "energy plants" (e.g., corn, canola) bioenergy feedstock hectares. Important context when people complain about solar land use. 🔌💡
I made a little graphic that shows that the total area used by solar parks and wind power in Germany is significantly less than that of golf courses (approx. 50,000ha), for example.

Some of the figures are from different years, but the proportions are pretty accurate.

Honeybees understand the concept of zero, or "null set", putting them in the same cognitive class as parrots, dolphins and primates in that regard.

What's more interesting to me is HOW WE CAN KNOW THAT.

The experimental design is what I want to focus on:

This is just a filter I’m holding, not a lens, so that’s the actual angular size of the sun in the photo. I’m always a little unnerved to realize how small the sun is when you take away all the glare.

Idea for a science-fiction world: The main planet is a cube (ok, this would be an "unexplainable artefact"), which means you could actually have surface expeditions into the vacuum of space (namely to the edges - the atmosphere would remain fairly round after all). thescipub.com/pdf/pisp.201...

But unlike the zombie ant fungus, it doesn't zombify or kill ants, instead, it makes them less aggressive towards other ants by changing how they "smell" to each other

JWST can produce beautiful images, but it's not quite a point-and-shoot camera.

For example, the stars in the Pillars of Creation don't actually have black centers, it's an artifact introduced by the NIRCam detector.
