As well as this, I feel quite strongly that the increased prominence in recent years of social media influencers who engage in nothing but ragebait content and harassment has proverbially sucked all the air out of the room, content mills producing bullshit at speed who dominate gaming conversations.

1. The gaming press has been decimated by business suits, and the whims of an uncaring search engine behemoth
2. Doing the job means you get death threats and harassment

I essentially agree that remakes should and could never replace the original game... but Yooka-Replaylee almost makes the case for an exception. It feels like the best possible version of the original in such a way where I would have 0 reason to go back to the original, other then for curiosity.

I think this is half the goal of AI for those seeking a post-truth order. Yes, they can produce fake evidence against people they don’t like, but probably more importantly they can dismiss actual evidence against them as being fake.

i was thinking something like mastodon would be what we should strive for but i guess I've not intelligently understood what it's problem ever was BEYOND "ooh the interface is a little complicated" which, erhm, comes with the territory of decentralized platforms

i can see two ways forward... one, these decentralized self-hosted spaces will actually become the next... or two, all homes are temporary and you have to be ready to change platforms about as often as you change to a new mobile phone
