A big part of why we find ourselves in this predicament is that the Biden administration was so terrified of anything that might be *perceived* as political retribution that they treated obvious criminals with kid gloves and slow-walked the process to the point that Trump was able to run the clock.
It's also a reminder of what *should* have happened to Mike Flynn, who should have been stripped of his rank and tried under UCMJ guidelines.

But only one party is concerned with "looking political."

Precisely. This isn’t about Kelly as if they expect it to have any effect on him or other members of Congress. It’s about using his prominence to make an example of what they can and will do to people vastly less powerful and secure.
This is designed to have a chilling effect on all retired service members. The message is that if you speak out, you risk your retirement pay.

The media need to stop beating their chests about how powerful our military is.
It's a point of pride when your country has a strong military that keeps the peace.
It's a source of shame when politicians turn your strong military into an international armed robbery gang.

WH sources say Venezuela's opposition leader committed the "ultimate sin": She accepted the Nobel Peace prize.

“If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” one said.

The death toll from the attack on Venezuela is now at 80, per Venezuelan officials. That includes civilians. Every article about the attack, or how the US somehow claims it will run the country, should mention the fact that, you know, people died, including civilians. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01...

This has been the default imperialist position for centuries, so really the oddity was that brief period of comfortable unipolar hegemony where it seemed gauche to say it out loud. No clearer sign of late imperial anxiety than the contemporary return of this old ass monocle and pith helmet blather
On X, a senior U.S. Justice Department official is promoting a post that praises colonization as “one of the greatest things that ever happened to the backwards parts of the world.”👇

Given that Trump's critics call it a kidnapping, and Trump says it's an apt term, I see no reason for the media not to use it. Literally both sides agree it's the proper description of what happened.
Q: Rodriguez called it a 'kidnapping' of Maduro

TRUMP: That's alright. That's not a bad term.

The weak response from Can, EU and UN to Trump's flagrant crimes in Venezuela is striking.

It exposes that much of the world has been cowed.

Most notable exception: the Latin American left.

That is why the Trump Admin has gone to enormous lengths to defeat the left across the continent. 1/3

This should rank as one of the most serious corruption scandals in history- the White House sharing top secret military information with oil company executives but not with Congress, creating massive opportunities for insider trading and other corrupt deals.

This incidentally is the same reaction I have whenever there's another story about how the left refuses to be friends with conservatives over politics.

Apparently conservatives want to be friends. It's a shocker.

You'd think if it were true, they'd be more friendly.
All of these aspects of the claim are interesting.

But "apologize" ... "apologize" is *extraordinary.*

It suggests that white conservatives have apparently been apologizing.

This blows me away, because I honestly don't remember American conservatives apologizing very much, if ever.

This is very good, for reasons that may strike many as irritating but I think are important.

The admin is going to invoke a string of executive branch interpretations of law. It's useful to know what those are. This post describes w/out endorsing them or suggesting they make everything legal.
