I had a fun conversation with Steve Keen last week.

We talked about:
- using models to show the failures of neoclassical economics
- social media voices challenging economic academia
- Modern Monetary Theory (MMT)
- the non-ergodic nature of international trade

... and more!

Pritzker: "It's unconscionable. This has never happened before. They're calling out troops onto the streets of a state that doesn't want them and they're not even telling us where they're gonna go, what they're gonna do. This hasn't happened I don't think since the Civil War."

Is there a reason I ask that the Times are using a picture of asylum seekers in a boat to describe rules for migrants who came on legal routes such as skilled worker visas for doctors?
thetimes.com
Tough new conditions to be imposed on migrants who want to settle in the UK will not apply to more than a million people who arrived in the UK under the post-Brexit immigration surge
Labour’s tough new rules will not apply to migrants already in UK

Reform can win the next election on around 30% of the vote. Starmer clearly hopes that most people will vote tactically to keep Reform out so that Labour wins on around 30% of the vote. Risky and cynical. We need #PR BEFORE the next election!

Pritzker: "In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists & protesters when unprovoked what would we call it? If officials marched down streets harassing civilians & demanding their papers, what would we say? I don't think we'd have trouble calling it what it is: authoritarianism"

So, my understanding of your question is whether commenting on other people's channels helps the credibility of your own channel. Short answer: don't know 🤷🙁

But, it might do.

I have wondered whether particular users subscribing to your channel helps credibility. Again, don't know 🙁

Great 👍 I'll probably reply to at least some of them.

Five corporations control 90% of the US media market.

Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today.

Four giants control 80% of meat processing.

A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry.

The evidence of corporate concentration is everywhere.

The media have to start framing this accurately. The president is now functioning as a tyrant. The story is whether the other two branches of government will do anything to stop him.

Trump says he’s authorized Hegseth to use “Full Force” against Antifa in “War ravaged” Portland
At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists. I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Andy Burnham says it’s time for the UK to stop being in hock to the bond markets. The City is in uproar, but who really calls the shots in Britain—the government we elect, or unelected financiers? youtu.be/E1oOQ0EOPhY?...

Vaccines are one of the great public health success stories.

They’ve saved millions of lives around the world.

So, what happens if the police stop you when you don't have your "papers" with you? Could you be detained? Do you get fined?

This projection is based on Reform getting just 27% of the popular vote. So with nearly three quarters not voting for Farage we could end up with him as PM. If this doesn’t convince everyone of the dangerous absurdity of our electoral system, what could? Wake up Starmer!

Nigel Farage on course to be next prime minister, mega poll projects
The projection suggests 306 Reform gains, up from their current seat tally of five.

Exactly. I'm fine with having an ID in a database that links some government databases together and is required/useful to undertake certain transactions.

But if I'm popping out for a walk on the beach, there should never be a requirement to carry my ID with me.

It's our govt and we're free people.

Digital ID is inevitable, but: We need a comprehensive digital rights Act; We must own our data and know who accesses it; The software must be owned and controlled in the UK; Full safeguards against malicious actors; Employers etc should only be given limited access.

Keir Starmer to announce plans for digital ID scheme
The prime minister believes a new scheme would help crack down on illegal working in the UK.

"The idea of a government elected on a minority of the vote is untenable." 💯

Thank you @andyburnham.bsky.social for being such a strong and consistent voice for Proportional Representation.

We need a new kind of politics: where no voter or community is left behind.

There is no world in which it is normal for the president to publicly call upon his attorney general to hurry up and prosecute his political foes. It’s like the Watergate tapes but posted on social media. Let’s get a grip on what’s happening here.

I was looking at Bluesky chat - need to do Age Verification in UK for that - will do someday.

How about private messages on LinkedIn or Facebook or, dare I say it, X? Are you on any of those?
