Trying to keep my head above water...
Always willing to sing the praises of the public library. So many hours of entertainment from books & movies/shows I borrowed.

One of my libraries was a godsend through the earliest days of the pandemic (yay, ebooks).

I always forget about Hoopla and Kanopy.....but yes!
Reminder that not only do library systems have physical media (& many also lend tools, electronics etc), your library card may give you access to streamers Kanopy and Hoopla. We just watched Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of The Rainmaker via a hoopla the other night. Pretty good!
“As prices for streaming subscriptions continue to soar and finding movies to watch, new and old, is becoming harder as the number of streaming services continues to grow, people are turning to the unexpected last stronghold of physical media: the public library.”

Just learned of the death of someone I knew eleventy years ago.

We weren't close friends but in the handful of times our paths crossed, he was an incredibly nice guy.

Diagnosed with ALS and fought hard. Gone at 56. 😭

If you need something new to discover on #BandcampFriday, check out my friend's music, under the name Flipping The Pig.

Eclectic, imaginative stuff, a dose of power pop and a whole lot of other influences.

Flipping the Pig
It's the culmination of a lifetime spent listening to a wide variety of music as filtered through a disheveled guy sitting in his pajamas and doing whatever comes to him. Songs about life, anxiety, ...

I know most people in/near LA see recognizable TV/film sets all the time. But it was pretty cool to get to see this up close a few weeks ago.

Still a classic.
47 years ago today, dozens of turkeys met their unfortunate demise in a Cincinnati parking lot.

Great suggestion for any writers. Unfortunately the "delete all" has happened several times to me, but I was able to save some of the later work.
Writers, it's always a good idea to print out your work that appears online. I have a whole year's worth of work lost in the internet ether.
Did you know that, according to a recent study by the Pew Research Center, 38% of webpages that existed in 2013 are no longer accessible?

Nice work, no major quibbles.

As a yinzer I feel that Pittsburgh has more in common culturally with eastern OH/Cleveland/Erie/other parts of Western PA than it does with "Pennsyltucky" which is most of region #56.
This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

Many cultural gaps for me, I'm sure - have never seen an episode of Lost or Breaking Bad. Haven't watched most reality shows - saw maybe one full ep of RPDR. Never watched The Real World.
Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

Love this vibe.

I want to take this energy and sprinkle a dusting of it over the live performance industry.....

What he said. (Well, not so much about the Dr. Pepper. But yes about SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE.)

Yes, I'll be having fun fooling around with GIFs for a day or so.....until the novelty wears off.

It's seven years since we posted on Twitter about how kids kept coming into the library asking if we had any books about FORTNITE. We didn't back then, and we'd never heard of it so we tried asking what it was.

[P] In honor of #NationalDogDay, and in the interest of posting something that’s not completely doom-filled, here a video of me getting buried under fourteen golden retriever puppies back in 2021.

Genuinely one of the best memories of my life.

Cautiously optimistic about this, though the Reader has been quite a hot potato over the last few years.

Bonus: Noisy Creek's ticketing service might offer a welcome alternative to dreadful LiveNation/Ticketmaster monopoly on shows.....
We have big news! The Chicago Reader is joining Noisy Creek, a media company that’s working to bolster alternative weeklies. This national network includes The Stranger in Seattle and the Portland Mercury in Portland, Oregon.
