We went to the movies! I watched HAMNET. It left me completely emotionally drained. I think it's the most I've cried in a movie since Late Spring. Absolutely transcendent. Hold your kids tight.

Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."

One of the reasons I think it’s also essential to not call the boat strikes “war crimes” but “crimes against humanity,” is that it emphasizes that Trump and Hegseth are acting extra-constitutionally and are not entitled to any shield from the courts. This systematic murder of civilians is illegal.

Other accommodations (lower lighting, white noise, text-to-voice and voice-to-text) don't help much unless you actually need them. I'd go as far as to guess that, if a student does THAT much better with our accommodations, they probably really need them.

Absolutely deserving winner. I didn't love the film, but Rose Byrne kicks ass in that one.

I would rather have a world where we all trust each other and accept that a few people will take advantage of it than a world where folks have to perform disability constantly in order to get the help they need. Let kids have an extra 30 minutes on the test, jesus fucking christ

I watched LEFT-HANDED GIRL and enjoyed it a lot! The cinematography is really impactful and it feels so alive and present. The performances are also pretty good all the way around. Really recommended!

If that essay was written the same way and also fully aligned with the instructor's beliefs, it still should have received a zero for 1. Failing to meet the requirements of the assignment and 2. Failing to maintain standard English conventions.

We took the whole family to ZOOTOPIA 2! It was a lot of fun! It has some interesting worldbuilding dealing with the displacement of indigenous people. Ultimately it's a bit formulaic, but still solid!

I watched IN YOUR DREAMS in between cooking for Thanksgiving! I didn't love it, and felt like it needed more structure and less Calvinball. Also, way too much mugging at the camera.

It's Thanksgiving Break! I went and saw ETERNITY which was fine! It doesn't really live up to the promise of the premise, and the main trio has virtually zero chemistry. But there are fun and emotional bits?

I have said before and will say again that it is such a loss that we no longer get covers of this caliber for fantasy books.

This art is by Jean-Léon Huens. These covers are for the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. They lit my imagination on fire as a kid.

We watched THE BAD GUYS 2! It's super fun and the animation is gorgeous. We called it KidzBop Fast and Furious, and it's a great film for the whole family, and I will gladly watch a third movie.

Breaking for movie rec - "Train Dreams," a lyrical, poignant film featuring a standout performance by Australian actor Joel Edgerton. The film lingers and permeates long after the credits roll. I will be throwing darts at my tv if he's not nominated for an Oscar.

Going into December, these are my current preferences for the Oscar categories. This includes updates seeing Wicked and Train Dreams.

Notable films that I have yet to watch: Sentimental Value, Marty Supreme, Testament of Ann Lee, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and Hamnet.
