Privileged male boomer and recovering federal criminal defense lawyer in PNW. Historian before that. I used to coach trial practice and soccer. Now: dogs, guitars, and planning my escape. Angry since 1968. “Where there’s law there’s injustice” (Tolstoy).
Pinned
Victor Hugo: “An enormous fortress of prejudices, privileges, superstitions, lies, exactions, abuses, violences, iniquities, and darkness still stands erect in this world, with its towers of hatred. It must be cast down. This monstrous mass must be made to crumble.”

That’s what these ‘debates’ are really about: framing old fashioned oppression as some kind of high-brow concern for women’s happiness.

You know what makes us happy? Bank accounts. Voting rights. The ability to leave a bad marriage and not have a miscarriage kill us.

Of course Trump doubles down on his hateful post.

This is who he is.

This is who he has always been.
Q: A number of Republicans have denounced your statement on Rob Reiner. Do you stand by it?

TRUMP: Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned.

Right Wing Media Can No Longer Contain Trump’s Failures with Aaron Rupar

@atrupar.com spends his days watching Fox & right-wing media, but Trump & MAGA's failures are so immense & chaotic that even the usual Reeks are having trouble at gaslighting & sanewashing.

Google appears to be forcing Gemini onto IOS devices including my iPhone. How do I get rid of it, short of tossing the phone into the river?

Quiet piggy? Seriously? What will the NYT say if anything? “Trump speaks to reporter using language that some critics argue was inappropriate?”

After reading this, I want to think that I would do this if I could. Easy for me to say, as my own kidneys are already in decline and no one would want one of them. (The article is from 6 years ago.)
The Kindest Cut
What do people find so odd about saving a stranger by donating a kidney?

This is straight up like paying defeated slavers for the people they legally didn’t own anymore and morally should never have “owned” in the first place

I don't know what the Senate is going to do. But if they do in fact fold in exchange for nothing, they will be living up to past performance. To expect the Senate to carry out the will of the American people is to misunderstand why it was created in the first place.

It’s kind of a big deal when a federal judge calls government witnesses liars and govt. allegations lies, and does so on the record. It rarely happens. #portland #chicago

The NYT is even reporting the news, although with their typical demeaning slant.

There are going to be a whole lot of electoral results that Mike Johnson hasn’t heard about tomorrow.

If given the chance, I'd lose my legs all over again to serve in our great military.

The leader of your party is a five-time draft dodger who has fired more Veterans than any other president in our history.

Square that circle then tell me who really hates our military.

somewhere in portland, there's one person, or a small handful of people, who came up with the inflatable costume idea, and I feel like they deserve our immense respect for defining the obvious developing aesthetic of the contemporary battle against fascism

Something maybe worth noting is that all the frog costumes and signs and good-natured memeing came about because a wide spectrum of Americans saw someone in direct, brave confrontation with ICE—getting pepperballed and standing their ground—and thought “that’s awesome. That person is a hero”
