The February 1999 issue of Jugemu Magazine contains a comic about the career of Koichi Nakamura, which features a lot of cute drawings depicting the history of Chunsoft. I actually used several panels from this comic in my recent video about the company's sound novels.

I wrote a long article about Rieko Kodama, her career at Sega, the evolution of her company, the games she worked on (including some canceled games and/or games for which she is not credited), the status of women and working conditions in the video game industry, etc.

Illustration: a portrait of Rieko Kodama with some of the games she has worked on. The dominant colors are yellow, purple and red. Counterclockwise from top left: Rieko Kodama, Alis and Lutz from Phantasy Star, Sonic in a maze, Alex Kidd and his motorbike next to Flicky on a waterfront pier, Joe Musashi and his dog near the Statue of Liberty facing a skyline, the three playable characters from Golden Axe seen from behind on the edge of a cliff, and one of the flying ships from Skies of Arcadia.

American Comic Strips: The First Manga: Julian Jefko examines the interconnection between early American comics and the rise of Japan's manga industry, and how works like "Bringing Up Father" and Mickey Mouse influenced manga creators.

American Comic Strips: The First Manga
The influence of American comics came first through the 1880-1920 translations; after this was established, the 1923 introduction of Bringing Up Father served as a turning point of Japanese manga.

Every Halloween I talk about a Castlevania game, and it was time to talk about the strangest one of all... which perhaps doesn't deserve its bad reputation.

These images may look like mere illustrations, but finding them was one of the most labor-intensive parts of researching and writing Manga: A New History of Japanese Comics. I'll explain below.
