Grandpa was a coal miner. Dad worked at a Toyota factory. I have a job neither of them understood/understand. I desperately hope my kids have a job where I have to restrain myself from saying "that kind of sounds like bullshit."

to anyone using firefox, pls make sure to use some kind of config file replacement (betterfox, etc.,) - based on commits firefox seems to have just now deleted the phrasing from their terms of service about not selling off your data. super sketchy, read here:

i think "an effective altruist is personally denying twenty million people their HIV medications despite a court order telling him to send the money" is a pretty good summary of effective altruism as a real world philosophy

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪
There are already many articles for which there is more attention on Bluesky than on other comparable micro-blogging sites, meaning the academic community and the general public have clearly adopted Bluesky as one of its core places to disseminate and discuss new research.

A Place of Joy.

not only are all of the "AI" ads generally super dark in one way or another, but I have yet to see a single consumer ask for "AI-powered" anything. ML is great, but it seems like "AI" has been this bizarre thing just forced onto the market one day - surely it'll fizzle out again at some point?
