Finished #StrangerThings. Not my favorite season, but I really enjoyed the last episode. Of the epilogues, I suppose the old-timers were supposed to be for me, but I related more with the guys on the roof. It hit hard. Just perfect.

Don’t mind me, just revising my list of elven names, as one does on a Wednesday night. 🍷

I don’t plan to keep anything specific from the reader, but in practice, probably many things. I dislike second screens and Hollywood underestimating the audience. I will resist the urge to explain and instead just tell the story.

#JanuaryWorldbuilders, good day! In worldbuilding, sometimes we get deep into figuring out how things work because we want to explain it to the reader. Today, I ask you for the opposite: what is something that you intend to leave mysterious? What doesn't get explained?

2026: I'll take it.

Hi, I am Paul and I am working on two worlds. One dark high magic European-Renaissance setting with much baggage. The other is a new science fantasy world, and I’m currently pinning down the basics.
Other favorites are the Forgotten Realms, Cthulhu, and the World of Darkness.

Welcome to a new year of worldbuilding! Let's kick off this year with Day 1 of #JanuaryWorldbuilders in which I ask you: tell me about yourself and the world(s) you're building. Just a general overviews. We'll get into the weeds throughout the year

So, 2025 has been a miserable year for reading, writing, gaming, and just about everything.
But I am ending on a high note. Taking notes from Jack, less work and more play is the plan.
Here’s to 2026.

I’m discovering the Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy and its huge backlog, and it’s lots of fun. They had me on the episodes about Dune, Diablo, and Doom.

I’m finally getting into #Diablo II Ressurected after buying and quickly shelving the game a few years ago. At the time, it did not work properly for some reason, but now it does.
It plays as I remember it.
I can’t say if I like it better than Diablo IV, though, nostalgia and legacy aside.

The games I play these days are telling, I suppose. I play to relax, not for the adrenaline. Worldbuilding, escapism, emotional punch, and sometimes community.

I’m watching #TheCure 's 2024 Troxy gig on this Christmas morning, and it’s perfect. So beautiful.

Only a small percentage of things people expend blood, sweat, and tears to create are successful.
But 0% of things people think about but never bother to create are successful.
Do the thing.

Just finished One Battle After Another, I’m realizing we actually got a few good movies this year. Megadoc. Flow. Sinners.
What did I miss?

Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

My second book for the hundred-book-challange was easier than Martin. I suppose Polidori’s “The Vampire”, including the Lord Byron fragment and an afterword, is a short story. While not great, it’s a facinating step towards Stoker, Rice, and the White Wolf stuff. Well worth the time.

The #1 movie when you were 10 years old is how your 2026 is going to go.

We're on track.

So, 2025 has not been a great year for reading, but inspired by Philp Athans, I’ve finally set off on a 100-book challenge. Martin’s Fire and Blood has been lingering in my TBR for seven years, so this will free up both headspace and shelfspace.
Up next: Sanderson and Poledori.

Oh wow, suddenly you have a desperate need for social and artistic skill sets? Amazing. Anyway, eat a cold loaf of Satan's ass cheese, fellas.
Are these the same companies that told us the robot could do it?

Taking a break from writing. I've been writing emotional beats and references to fictional books in my story today. Fun times. #stetwalk

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel.

The Aurora/Chemical Brothers single is so cool.

On your deathbed, you will probably not be thinking, "at least I totally owned those trolls on social media," and if you are it's unlikely there will be anyone there to hold your hand as you go
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.
