Its worth remembering that when the broad population realize (if they do) that a country is an authoritarian state, its already too late. Its less about what research they are cancelling or not funding, and more about the bigger picture.

...in a clinical or academic setting without significant consequences. Whether openly speaking about what is happening, contributing to relevant charities, and so on, we can all do our part regardless of how small it is. Particularly in academic settings, we cant be silent about this.

This is what I saw every other day as a child in rural Connemara in Ireland which is an Irish speaking area (where I am from). It is so heartbreaking seeing what is happening. It is so disappointing and upsetting seeing so many of those in any form of power being silent.

The sad part about this is that most academics know the type that capitulate to any pressure and are ruled by self interest to power. The president and those in that office will regret showing such cowardice.
