The last time the Republicans embraced a maximalist tariff policy was 1930. The party then was obliterated in successive elections. Republicans went from a 270-164 majority to holding just *88* seats in 1937. With a few exceptions, Democrats dominated the House for decades.

FWIW - New Yorkers really turned on Mike Bloomberg when he tried to orchestrate a third term for himself. But maybe that was because he was not known as someone who flouted laws and norms or who was expected to be corrupt.
