We strongly support the nurses at UPMC Magee standing up & fighting for the working conditions they deserve.

UPMC needs to stop the union-busting and put its workers and patients first.

I proudly stand with the nearly 1000 nurses at UPMC Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh in their fight for patient care and safe staffing.

Rather than put nurses and patients first, UPMC has run a vicious anti-union campaign.

UPMC must get serious and respect its workers.
Nurses union advances at UPMC’s Magee-Womens Hospital
About 1,000 nurses at Magee-Womens Hospital will vote to decide whether they’d like to be represented by SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania. The organizing effort is the latest in a growing labor movement a...

Our members head back to work on Monday & welcome students back to school on 8/25. A strike is always a last resort; after all, we're parents of Philly school students, too.

The 1-year extension of our last CBA gave the School District ample notice of members' needs. Where's the urgency, SDP?
PFT members and union leaders update the press and public on contract negotiations. A 1-year extension of the PFT's last contract, ratified in 2021, expires on August 31st. PA Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman is out raising money today at a high dollar fundraiser instead of working to pass a state budget.

We suggest giving him a call at (724) 357-0151 to let him know you feel about that. ⛳️

Trash piling up? Libraries & pools closed? Long wait times for emergency calls?

Text DC33 to 30403 to contact the Mayor's office & tell them to give striking AFSCME DC 33 workers a fair contract.
A pile of trash next to a Philadelphia city trash can with a sign posted on it saying “Mayor Parker pick up your trash, give DC 33 a raise”.

Last month, Mayor Cherelle Parker's city budget gave tax cuts to the wealthiest corporations in Philly. Now, she claims there's no money left for striking city workers to make a living wage.

Text DC33 to 30403 to contact the Mayor's office & tell her to give AFSCME DC 33 workers a fair contract.
TELL MAYOR CHERELLE PARKER: PAY CITY WORKERS A LIVING WAGE.

The PA Working Families Party State Committee stands in solidarity with the workers of AFSCME DC 33 who made the difficult decision to go on strike.

It's time for the city to provide them with a fair contract and the benefits they deserve.
Today, the Working Families Party State Committee is writing in support of the AFSCME DC 33 workers who have made the difficult decision to go on strike as a result of unfair pay and benefits. No worker wants to go on strike — but the city's refusal to offer a fair contract has led the workers of AFSCME DC 33 to have no other option but to walk off of the job.

These workers make Philadelphia run. They’re our city employees ranging from 911 dispatchers to water department and sanitation workers to school crossing guards. They keep our children safe and our city clean.

These workers are not asking for a lot: an increase in pay, a stronger pension plan, and more support on the job. The city should provide these resources and more to the people who make this city work. And we should make sure that these workers aren’t priced out, providing enough pay and benefits for them to stay in the city.
The city’s most recent offer would increase out-of-pocket healthcare costs, weaken sick leave policies, and raise wages by rates lower than inflation, effectively resulting in a pay cut. That’s not acceptable.

At a time when the city of Philadelphia has just passed a budget that gave tax cuts to the richest corporations in the city, the administration has a moral imperative to provide the workers of the city with decent pay and benefits.

That’s why we stand in solidarity with the workers of AFSCME DC 33. It’s time for the city to provide them with a fair contract and the benefits they deserve.

Signed,

The PA Working Families Party State Committee

Republicans are telling us they don’t have the money to feed hungry families, or provide healthcare to people depending on Medicaid. Meanwhile, the Pentagon gets a blank check.

Yesterday, @kendraphlcouncil.bsky.social's POWER Act passed the city council.

In the face of Trump’s efforts to dismantle worker protections nationally, we cannot idly sit by.

Other cities need to follow Philly's lead and expand labor rights at the local level.

Today, Philly passed the POWER or Protect Our Workers Enforce Rights Act: the most significant legislation to offer sweeping protections for workers since Trump’s election.

Thanks to the advocacy of @kendraphlcouncil.bsky.social, @domesticworkers.bsky.social, and so many other councilmembers, leaders, and partners, the POWER Act is now PASSED.

This will expand protections for over 750k workers & make Philly one of the most pro-worker cities in the country.
