“Today?” replied the boy. “Why, it’s Book Release Day sir!”

fun fact—in The Dead Cat Tail Assassins, ants & yogurt are a rare delicacy.

Scientists revive old Bulgarian recipe to make yogurt with ants. Ants carry lactic and acetic acid bacteria that help coagulate milk, as well as formic acid to acidify it. They even partnered with Danish chefs to create three recipes using ant yogurt. arstechnica.com/science/2025...

“It was heartbreaking to watch,” said Watson. “Even if you’re not a mother, seeing kids coming out buck naked and taken from their mothers, it was horrible.”…

“Stuff was everywhere…people’s birth certificates, and papers thrown all over. Water was leaking into the hallway. It was wicked crazy.”

There are only two kinds of serious writers/readers of SFF today: those who ferociously love the work of Kai Ashante Wilson and want to see a great deal more of it in the world, and those who have not yet read him. Good news, everyone!

“And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.”-Nemik, 5 BBY
Article in newspaper stating the removal of slavery images from public spaces by the administration. Features photograph of enslaved man with deep scars on his back.

The blockbuster horror film "Sinners" features the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians in a short, impactful scene. For some Choctaw, it is the first time they've heard their language and seen their culture accurately portrayed on screen.

I’m a sucker for meta-puns. I’m reading The Dead Cat Tail Assassins by @pdjeliclark.bsky.social. There’s a group of sons of the elite practicing magic on the edges of morality…he calls them Edgelords. One group of them is the Three Beards. The protagonist calls the Neckbeards.

I’ve told the story many times. Now @katemasur.bsky.social and I have filed it in federal court: Free Black Americans were first to recognize BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP in the US. When denied it, they fought to secure it. They show us what the 14th Amendment meant and what it meant to live without it.
brennancenter.org
Historian @marthasjones.bsky.social & @katemasur.bsky.social, a member of the Historians Council on the Constitution, filed a brief against the birthright citizenship executive order. History contradicts the administration's claim that the 14th Amendment applies only to “newly freed slaves.”

September will mark the 200th anniversary of author-activist Frances Ellen Watkins Harper’s birth. Here’s the sixth of six essays in the exciting forum on Harper in the current issue of Legacy, @brigfield.bsky.social’s breathtaking & visionary “Generational Harper.” muse.jhu.edu/pub/17/artic...
An engraving of a head-and-shoulders portrait of an African American woman (Frances Ellen Watkins Harper) in three-quarters profile. Wearing traveling clothes and her hair gathered in her signature chignon, she looks with calm determination to the viewer’s left. Originally in William Still's 1872 book The Underground Rail Road.

Well that’s that then. I had nuff problems with this show, but it had some standout moments. At least I got to see a visually stunning walk through the rings at Rhuidean and visions of the Breaking and the Age of Legends. Will be grateful for that.
