We'd need a breakdown of number of new authors vs. more papers from same authors. But my sense is that at UIST I met a lot of new people (especially big growth in Asia) that were attending for first time (with a paper), so I'd say that's actual growth. (Also UIST got A listed in China recently)

Is that number reasonable? Well, it's the size of our field, so it's always reasonable per definition. Maybe your question is if a single HCI conference should get those or spread over multiple? P.s.:Our field isn't particularly huge compared to other sciences or sub fields of CS, but it's healthy.

#CHI2026 breaking records with 6.7k paper submissions! It's a lot of papers (last year was ~5k, now we are closing in on ~7k!). I know we all can be grumpy about things in HCI but the field is definitely growing and very much engaging with new ideas! I find it really inspiring.

Wow. Huge win but simultaneously #uist2025 sold out, #chi2025 sold out, now assets! What will the community do? Online? Scalp tickets? ;)

Right? Why limit yourself to hearing one part of the record when you could hear them all?

One thing I've been saying for maybe 10 years now is that the "excellent review" box is nice but I'd rather have a "terrible review" box. That's much more problematic and informative for chairs than the excellent one (sadly). Again: personal take, not from the TPC26 team.

Crackpot track is a great name :)

Loving all of this discussion. This would make for a great CHI panel meet up, whatever!
pedrolopes.org
I totally agree with @amyko.phd. I believe that we have robust aspects in HCI's implementation of peer-review but we lack reviewer accountability. We can (and should?) look to other fields that have solved this and improve. (Disclaimer: personal take, not representative of CHI26 TPC chairs)
