There is a part in this interview where the 'historian' says (I paraphrase but this is pretty much it): 'I didn't really think about the Indigenous people in this story as being individual human beings until an LLM told me they were.' Perhaps the problem here isn't AI so much as...
The thing which is so curious about this piece is that so many of the people in it you just want to ask 'what is it you think that being a historian is ABOUT?'

In the village of Ehrenstein in southern Germany, #Neolithic limestone discs adorned with incised lines are a common find. These discs featured a striking black and white contrast, achieved by filling the incisions with dark birch pitch. They measured up to 12 centimeters in diameter. 🧵 1/2

Rail use heading back towards pre COVID levels (now around how they were in 2018). But rail subsidies reduced by Reeves. And the bus fare cap increases by 50% and the fuel tax untouched for 15 years. War on cars though.

Given the CSR rail investment news this week, this chapter is perhaps relevant as it contains a lot of relevant historic Welsh rail investment (and lack thereof) content. So a wider re-share maybe of interest? #wales #rail #csr #ukGov #devolution

Fake stories create panics, want people/govts to be slaves of the rich.

This was a cool development in Denmark in 2024.

Looking to 2025, as countries update their climate commitments (NDCs), they should include agriculture-specific GHG reduction targets and incorporate agricultural mitigation measures.

Which country will be next to make a splash on ag & climate?
