Hi new followers!
I am a culture writer and memoirist based in Mi'kma'ki. I write about music, film, tv, technology, games, mental illness, and the occult. I have two essay collections that contain my entire essence: BE SCARED OF EVERYTHING, and HOW TO RESTORE A TIMELINE.
I hope we can be friends.
Two books laying on an old Parker Brothers Ouija board:
BE SCARED OF EVERYTHING: HORROR ESSAYS – a blue book covered in scared geometry and horror symbols

HOW TO RESTORE A TIMELINE: ON VIOLENCE AND MEMORY – the cover of which shows a beach, the ocean, a wooden pier, and a collage of trees from high above

Perhaps it's a perfect time to check out an essay collection that John Hodgman called "...a brilliant, humorous, heartbreaking examination of how certain events break our lives apart, and what we do with the pieces.”

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

My cameo on Dark Web this week was found out by my friends across the ocean haha. Fun to send something in earnest (while in the middle of moving), kinda forget about it, and then get jumpscared by your own work?? Rob was really cool and nice about it which made me happy 🥹

Social media is great! It's important! And it sucks that it's been hijacked by people with political brainworms!

I was approached by a publisher to write my first book thanks to a link to my blog in my Twitter account. I've also made dozens of friends though social media, meant of whom are very dear to me.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Of course the bigots and fascists don’t want you to study English.

The enemy of fascism is:
Close reading
Clear communication
Questioning the meaning of what you read
Accurate spelling & grammar
Thinking for yourself
Creativity
Understanding the mechanics of argument
Imagination
Enjoyment
Joy

Halifax was wonderful, and my two events with @peterbcounter.com and @elliottgish.bsky.social were absolute delights. In other news, I am thrilled to confirm that I've received a substantial creation grant from the Canada Council, my first in many years, for my work-in-progress, The Stone Garden. 👻
