A photo of a Western Meadowlark, a blackbird (that’s surprisingly not black at all) with a long, pointed bill, a patterned brown-and-white backside, and a bright yellow chest interrupted by a cluster of pitch-black “bib” feathers. It’s surrounded and framed by marsh grasses, and a blue backdrop of water can be seen behind it. A Sandhill Crane, a long, slender gray bird bright red skin on its face, tucks its long bill into its feathers to relax. A Red-winged Blackbird, a bird that is (like its name suggests) pitch-black except for a small red patch on the base of its wing, stands poised at the crane’s feet, dwarfed by its size. Two male Northern Shovelers (ridiculously large-billed ducks with an iridescent green head, golden eyes and a white body sprayed with cinnamon rufous) and one female (remarkably plain looking, beige speckled with brown, albeit still possessing the characteristic large bill) wade in the water of the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge marsh. The two males are caught in the midst of bobbing their heads up and down, while the female dips her bill in the water, foraging for something tasty just below the water’s surface. A Great Blue Heron, a ridiculously slender blueish-grayish bird with a long bill, an even longer neck, and a slaty-blue head complete with long plume feathers, stands tall and proud in a dry, grassy field. Its piercing yellow eye stares straight into the camera.

I knew for sure I was an #atheist when I was told by a Christian I knew that in order to be Christian, one must reject major parts of science—and they were proud of doing that.

I can’t imagine just openly denying information that has been factually proven so many times. Miss me with that BS.

I swear I love acting so much but you’ll never catch me signing up for a performing arts program ever again. I want to enjoy it so bad, but in my experience theatre is genuinely such a breeding ground for toxicity and cliquey immature behavior and I am positively done with it lol

I love being on the yearbook staff at my school because I can randomly set up a camera in class, go outside, take awful pictures of birds, and no one will question me 🪶 🌿
A rather hyper Ruby-crowned Kinglet (Corthylio calendula) sticking out its tush, perched on a bare tree with a few leaves and berries here and there. The kinglet is adorable and tiny, olive all over with a faint white eye-ring and a short, forked tail. It’s in clear enough view to be ID’d, but admittedly, its rump is the only thing perfectly in view. Two House Sparrows perching on a concrete curb. The one in the foreground is a male, with the classic patterned rusty back, white wing bar, and cute black mask. There’s a female in the background, but she has other business to take care of rather than look at my lens.
