I'm an "A.i." abolitionist.

No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything.

Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine.

But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires?

No.

Love to be a second class citizen who can legally be discriminated against!!!!

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
The court also finds "extensive discrimination" against trans people. But his hands are tied because of the SCOTUS decision in Skrmetti.

Not all discrimination is illegal, he interprets SCOTUS as ruling, meaning bias against trans people is akin to setting a voting age or disenfranchising felons.

Relative of a family friend got swept up by ICE. The reason? He had a disagreement with his manager. Manager called ICE. ICE picked him up in front of the entire undocumented staff, as a fucking warning.

Its the ease with which universities have suddenly the money to pay for AI subscriptions, AI professorships, AI workshops, AI everything while they reassure us that "there is no money" to pay grad students and precarious faculty living wages.
Can you imagine if the loudest voices in higher ed actually stopped to critically evaluate whether so-called "AI" tools are worth the documented and likely-but-not-yet-well-documented effects of their use?

Instead of being AI triumphalist, remembering that tech vendors are not our friends/saviors?

I was scheduled to give a talk on Palestine at a student conference at @notredame.bsky.social. The University rescinded my talk a week in advance citing an extremely flimsy excuse. It is truly disgusting. Attached is the letter I received and my reply, link below...

I actually do not think even the pandemic has burned me out as much as "AI" has done, or has sapped me of hope re the next generation. Ive always been defiantly hopeful re my students but christ almighty, this whole AI thing has stripped that from me. And its enervating.
The promise of AI in education is it will save educators time. That's rubbish. It's sapping all our time already in working groups, committees, workshops, and marking anxiety. It's the most time-sapping, exhausting and frankly boring thing I've ever encountered in HE - and it's in my research area.

Converting all restrooms in your workplace, community spaces, etc. to gender-neutral restrooms right now is literally the bare minimum for defending trans people from a federal legal assault right now. This should have been done ages ago.
