I wouldn’t feel as if it were Christmas if I didn’t share Balmain’s 1955 cocktail dress. I can only imagine how the wearer felt, arriving in this perfect Christmas gown. To all those who celebrate, I hope you are enjoying peace with favourite people. Sold via #KerryTaylorAuct #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

#Ootd is this 2014 Maison Margiela ensemble consisting of a bodysuit made of 18th-century silk lampas (a drawloom woven fabric usually with metallic gold or silver threads) and a chiffon silk embroidered with coins, some antique. Reusing fabric was a common and expected practice

My good neighbor saw me taking flower by the sidewalk and I got invited to see some other peonies that just started blooming.

Making the most of an electric blue silk skirt with not one but two bodices, catering to all events from day to night. Many garments from the 1860s were constructed in this way to maximise wear, adaptability in action @jbrightcollection.bsky.social #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Pink in all senses of the word in this #1840s evening dress. Not only is the fabric itself a vibrant pink but the edges of the ruffles are ‘pinked’ or punched into the distinctive clipped edges, trimmed with self coloured satin stitch embroidery @historicdeerfield.bsky.social #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

People have asked elsewhere, but I did not make up this little poem. It's supposedly a traditional fairy tale ending, though I've never seen it attributed to any particular region or culture. I just like it.

For this week's #FridayFrills, we have another 1955 gown with extraordinary metallic threaded embroidery. This one is from an unknown designer, although I thought it was Dior when I first saw it. The crossed bodice that appears to emerge as a long sash that comes out of the waistband is to die for.
