Answering the question: "What can an old man make with some yeast, a mattarello and a fair knowledge of kitchen math?"

- Foods I post are homemade unless noted.
- Recipes/tips cheerfully provided
You would know, better than anyone else.

I don't live in a pro sports town, so I'm ecumenical in my hatreds

Old ones last. I grew up a Redskins fan, and still despise the Cowboys. And fuck the Rangers, remnant of the craven baseball team that left DC in '71.

But I'm open-minded enough to hate the Patriots and Dodgers, like everyone else.

Very much so. We hate the Yankees and they are like "and you are... ?"

I'm not sure Philadelphia's famous surliness will work to the city's - or the nation's - advantage.

History suggests that CIVIL disobedience, and not random, moderately criminal behavior, is the most effective tool in circumstances like ours.

"...Some days you're the battery, some days you're the outfielder..." is likely to be the best quote I find on Bsky for weeks, so thanks for that!

I've wondered if being a fan of Baltimore sports teams isn't like being a San Diego fan.

ex.: You hate the Yankees but the Yankees hate Boston, and don't really think about Baltimore.

San Diegans hate LA, but LA fans, when they think about anyone other than themselves, feel the rivalry with SF.

Not for nothing, the man who matriculated at Johns Hopkins referring to himself as a "Baltimoron" is world-class humblebragging, far exceeding anything I've seen Yalies or Harvard people come up with.

You're not wrong, but since Drew was playing for the Cards at that point in '99, I'd bet all the money in my pocket that the OP doesn't know the pertinent facts, in part because he wrote, "...And that's what they do to their *own* sports teams."

"...or the Yankees..."

You were right there. Just so close.
January 26, 2026 at 4:42 PM
Nope.

After the Phillies failed to sign J.D. Drew as a draft pick in 1997, fans targeted him with batteries and other objects when he played against them with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1999.

That's it. There are no other battery-throwing stories.

I've been fighting this battery misinformation bullshit for a while now, but otherwise intelligent people seem committed to believing the lie, so I've decided that since whatever helps doesn't hurt, I'll let y'all keep kidding yourselves.

Mature, reasonable adults, around the world and throughout time, have thought this way.

You know who doesn't agree with you that this is an appropriate response?

Children. Petulant little fucking kids.

I'd eat every bit of that!
