Watching Mayor Zohran Mamdani and AG James together feels really good for the soul. So many powerful people are going to do literally everything they can to thwart them— but also they’ve already been trying and look where we are? Nervous, but tremendously excited to see what happens next.

We need a new generation of leaders who are the voices of democracy, freedom, social justice, & the rule of law.

A new generation that renews the “we” in “we the people.”

Instead of fretting over Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Party should embrace him as part of its future.

Think @sundersays.bsky.social is accurate here.

The UK has not suddenly become much more racist.

However the (re)normalisation of open racism by "respectable" right-wing media and politicians has led to both increased visibility for open racists, & radicalisation of some "soft" racists/xenophobes
Longterm intergenerational shift is a civic widening of inclusion. The short-term shift is hardening views within the minority position

There are still great journalists working there, and great stories being published. But now we know that these stories will only be seen when the bosses allow it. And not all those bosses are working at CBS News.

It becomes a sideshow because - cold take - these people suck at their jobs and would much rather pretend their laziness is some sort of high-minded calling rather than just the absolute lowest of bars to clear compared to those who engage in the actual hard questions of policy impacts on people.

They're empty. But it's important to know: They are con artists & don't care about the economy/health/welfare of the public at all. They do not share our values. If we don't realize this, we can't deal w them.

See @mkonnikova's book The Confidence Game, a history of con artists, to understand.

The most helpful incident here is the Arab Spring, which all the lads roared for with joy. Amazing, they said: people can use social media to overthrow sclerotic regimes that rule by force, inertia, patronage and propaganda! And then they had a bit of a think about what that could mean, in practice.
What has happened to Afghans, Iraqis, Syrians, Egyptians, Libyans, and many more? What happened to pretty much every country where British wingnuts have loudly yearned for the freedom of the people, this century? The results are instructive!
