I know it's not the most important thing here but this story also corroborates one of my biggest theories about these tech guys: they do zero hours of work in a day. They do no work no matter how much they claim to work 14 hours a day. They're just on their phones.
Ben Smith lifts up a corner of the plush comforter under which our would-be overlords have been huffing each other's farts for the past few years as they collectively dream their way back to the cutting-edge ideas of the late 19th century www.semafor.com/article/04/2...

This opinion on an Alien Enemies Act case on Petition for Habeas is 🔥🔥🔥 and also contains the background of Venezuelan immigration status and actions under previous Trump Admin. Interesting read:

1 Wish I had a larger following because everyone should listen to this podcast. A great explainer of the historical background of neoliberalism and its intersection w/libertarianism that has led to far right global movements. Local bookstore was out of his new book, but recommend Crack-Up Capitalism

Harvard's Steve Levitsky, coauthor of How Democracies Die: "We are no longer living in a democratic regime." Must-listen interview - remarkably clear about the severity of the situation we now face www.npr.org/2025/04/22/n...
Harvard professor offers a grim assessment of American democracy under Trump
Steven Levitsky studies how healthy democracies can slip into authoritarianism. He says the Trump administration has already done grave damage: "We are no longer living in a democratic regime."

The Trump-Supreme Court battle is not really the crisis.

The crisis is here now. Trump is enacting an insidious coordinated attack on our institutions of democratic accountability, designed to crater democracy before next fall.

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

Monstrously destructive, incoherent, ill-informed tariffs based on fabrications, imagined wrongs, discredited theories and ignorance of decades of evidence. And the real tragedy is that they will hurt working Americans more than anyone else.

This exciting resolution from Rutgers University Senate is exactly the kind of model I think higher ed needs: a mutual defense pact of, in this case, Big 10 schools. They call for member institutions to create a joint defense fund and make resources available to any member institution under attack.
