It’s also similar to large or local news corporations, when they lay off or lose their lead correspondent for a particular sect (crime, music, arts, law, etc) they lose the access to years of knowledge, navigation, and sources and who replaces them can’t look at something as historically.

Yeah, this is pretty much exactly what happens when an increasingly shrinking games media has another round of layoffs and forces out long-term staff with institutional knowledge over an endless churn of college grads who can afford to work a low wage every couple of years. Not great all round!

I can still understand people not liking this route that they're going in (which is fine). But I'm hopeful that Nintendo might do a swap between each style. Metroid Dread, Prime 4, then a Metroid Dread 2, Prime 5, etc...so you get isolated 2D, then more cinematic 3D entries every few years.

...legacy news media have been forced out of their prospective jobs, as staff numbers constantly get reduced, and younger writers are willing to take these jobs at low salaries. Problem is, that a lot of them were barely alive when Prime 3 came out. So you lose that institutional knowledge.

For those worried about too many cutscenes/voiced character dialog in a Metroid game, go back and play Prime 3 (like I just did). It's shocking that every 10 mins you're talking with someone or getting radio calls. Not sure why IGN and other outlets seemed to just forget that?

ah yes, the thing that Rockstar did with GTA 3, vice city and San Andreas when a very mid at the time remaster for all 3 games dropped and everyone LOVED that so much (sarcasm)
