I can’t believe we have the same people on both jobs. It’s a failure of planning if anything.

Badenoch: "While Britain was redefining what a woman is, China built five nuclear reactors."

A perfect summary of conservative idiocy. Glorifying authoritarian post-communism for its efficiency while vilifying democracy for seeking nuance and respect.

It is the Right who hate their own countries.

The modern world is sorely lacking in the Gus Hedges GIFs I need to illustrate this.

Bari Weiss introduced herself to CBS News staff today on the network's 9AM call, saying she wants to "win," which requires restoring trust to CBS. She also said she was excited for staff to get to know the Free Press, and ended her remarks by saying: "Let's do the fucking news."

Definitely the combo. Loves a bit of Yo-Yo Ma when not distracted by the other things, does Ed.

Oh yes, he is clearly a huge block to much in the way of left unity. And while not that relevant to the current crisis, a lot of his foreign policy positions are pretty…urgh.

I don’t know about Ireland, but here in Britain you need a fishing license if you’re going to use bait like this.

Gavin has shown himself unfit to be President. This is why we should let our current President take a third term, despite his age. Who cares what the constitution says.

Don’t worry, I’m sure Mr Jenrick is on the public record expressing similar concerns about a lack of skin colour diversity in some of the villages in his 96% white constituency.
lizzicollinge.bsky.social
Because of course in the world according to Robert Jenrick there are only two groups of people - white people and 'other' people who need to integrate.

Going to put it out there that getting the chap who used to run Swiss Postbuses to be shadow chancellor would actually be a decent coup for the Tories.

Amusingly, our antenatal classes are taking place in the same wine bar that Lisa and I had our third date in eleven years ago. Had Lisa taken greater offence that I forgot to buy her dinner that night and she had to go home and eat marmite on toast alone, things could have turned out v differently.

Not any more - while the curve was physically kept in the Thameslink remodelling, I believe it is basically unusable in signalling terms.

Someone on my train just described the London Bridge to Cannon Street line as ‘a branch line’, which is impressively both accurate and totally inaccurate at the same time.

(Outside the peaks, I prefer to think of it as ‘the world’s most expensive - in real estate terms - reversing siding’.)

Yeah, the idea of ‘better’ is highly contextual when the range of things under discussion is ‘MOB’s longer-distance trains’.

I’ve only travelled on the gauge changing trains from Interlaken Ost to Interlaken West, so not long enough to have an informed view! (Though they seemed very nice.)
politicanimal.bsky.social
It’s a close run thing with lots of other lines (big fan of most of the narrow gauge lines branching off the Lausanne-Brig route). I especially like how the Zweisimmen line is stupidly spectacular while also being a run-of-the-mill Montreux suburban railway.
politicanimal.bsky.social
No, those are just their 'normal' panoramic trains, unfortunately (which are still very nice!) www.mob.ch/en/stories/p.... Fantastic route - I think the climb from Montreux to the summit tunnel and then emerging into the highland scenery at Les Cases might be Switzerland's best bit of railway.
GoldenPass Panoramic
The world’s first fully panoramic train!

My tip for that route is to take the Golden Pass Belle Époque (departs Montreux at 14:43, ten minutes behind the gauge-changing through service), in part for the fun of watching people do a double take that their ordinary 2nd class ticket is valid on this thing that looks like a mini-Orient Express.

What is fascinating is how the two-syllable name works much more effectively paired with the single-syllable verb. Keir! Keir! Keir! Out! Out! Out! just seems humdrum and unimaginative by comparison.
