This is called repression, pure and simple.
Armed ICE agents trapped US citizens in a restaurant and demanded their papers. Federal agents walked into East African restaurants in Cedar-Riverside, MN. They closed and blocked the doors. Then they demanded to see everyone’s papers. Every person present was a US citizen.

Having a hard time with anything that has a plot. Just seems so silly to me. There's a protagonist, an antagonist and something at stake? Sorry, life is nothing like that.

This is the desert of the real. The Wachowskis called it. But like Bernie says, no one wants this. Folks are organizing in amazing ways.
Mark Zuckerberg is building a data center in Louisiana that will use 3x more electricity than all of New Orleans.

Oligarchs want YOU to pay for these data centers with higher water & electric bills.

I use about 3kg of filament a week across two printers running 24/7 - it all just goes out, no sales - whistles use less than 2g of filament, so a 1kg roll of filament becomes about 600 whistles. Consider sending a roll of bright ugly filament (or 4) from my wishlist: www.amazon.com/registries/g...

Great piece. I first heard “Ridin’ my thumb to Mexico” while driving around Albuquerque, where it was real. For me it’s been canon ever since. A still unique projection of being musically American.
Because of the writing/listening time involved, I should probably go w/ the three Best Country Albums projects I did, one for 1975, '85 and '95--each two parts, each including 100+ titles. But my faves were essays on Ozark Princess Chappel Roan and my appreciation of Johnny Rodriguez (1/2)

Also, it's kind of . . . useful to have people in the United States who have an educated understanding of Latin America?
So many things to say but I just want to point to the example of “Latin American studies” being a useless major in the piece and make sure everyone knows Reading is 70% Latino? Denying Albright the chance to learn Lat Am studies is a kind of affront against the community

Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.
