Intro to Bsky What's science
I'm cell biologist in love with microscopy, moving cells & organelles. I am the head of the Cell Communication and Migration (CellComM) lab, so you can guess what we study ;)
I'll be posting cellfies (& hopefully movies at some point !).
Let's make a nice community here!

Wow, there's a lot of us here now. Reintroducing myself:
I am Joel 👋🏿.
My lab studies how the microbiome shapes the immune system in health & disease, using a mix of bench and computational approaches.
I am also passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists 🥼.

A quick re-intro: we are interested in the mechanisms of collective cell behaviour, particularly cell movement. We use fly embryos, quantitative microscopy, image analysis and computer-based modelling. One of the systems where we study collective cell movement is the wound healing response.

This is an incorrect calculation of the area of a triangle by a young Babylonian student at school around 1900-1600 BCE, excavated from the ancient city of Kish.

It’s a moment in the history of math, of education, of children, of mistakes, of people being people. I love it.

Ea-nāṣir is the recipient of the world’s oldest complaint letter. He’s reportedly the worst businessman of the 18th century, a mediocre conman whose actions should have him put out of business. Is this fair?

Here’s a thread on the most up-to-date research on this captivating figure.

Let's start with "What are embeddings" by @vickiboykis.com

The book is a great summary of embeddings, from history to modern approaches.

The best part: it's free.
