Political violence is abhorrent. I have not celebrated Kirk's death.

But Newsom calling for his followers to "continue Charlie Kirk's work," someone who praised stoning gay people as "god's perfect law," who called for men to "take care of" trans people like they did in the 50s and 60s, is not it.

Trans people: [Make post about something completely unrelated]

Some people: "At least you're not the orange cheeto in the white house hope you enjoy my epic joke lololol"

Please shut the fuck up and leave us alone. We know shit sucks. It doesn't need to be every fucking second, every post.

No matter your station in life, there is astoundingly little separating you from those men in that cage behind Kristi Noem. No charges, no attorneys, no hearings, no trial. Just conjecture and brute force could be enough to justify completely dehumanizing you, too.

If they outlaw bans on conversion therapy and allow bans on evidence-based medical care, I don't know if you can escape the conclusion that we now live in a theocracy, where what is legal depends not on the constitution but on the narrow conservative Christian interpretation of their religion.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court takes up a case challenging Colorado's ban on conversion therapy for minors, after having previously turned down many other similar challenges.

The law, which protects against efforts to change a minor's sexual orientation or gender identity, was upheld below.

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote.

There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP

Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.
@aoc.bsky.social
Please explain what just happened. Is there no way to stop this w the reconciliation to be used by GOP to get around the filibuster? Are we sunk?

1. Nearly a century ago, Nazis burned trans books to usher in fascism.

Now, Trump is doing the same, digitally burning all records of transgender people and striking the community from records.

This must be seen for what it is: a move towards atrocity.

What really bothers me about these anti trans laws isn’t what’s happening to me specifically but what’s happening to all the more vulnerable people like me. Particularly young people in red states. I was them once, and I hoped the new generation would come into a better world.

It took all of *one week* before top Republican donors pivoted to the real prize of Trump’s election: the prospect of extending Trump’s tax breaks for the ultrawealthy.

It was never about lowering prices. It was always about lining the pockets of Trump’s donors.

The most powerful words you can say right now to these fascist bastards is:

"No, make me."

They cannot actually be everywhere and enforce their fascist policies. They rely on fear to do the job of governing for them. By refusing to comply, you make their means of compliance ineffective.

TLDR: There is nothing enforceable for the immediate future. It will take months or years to implement this via rulemaking or bureaucratic changes which are then subject to legal challenge. While it's worrying, there's no immediate change yet for most trans people. Do not comply in advance.

As a trans person, I have no great faith that cis people will stand up for my rights, but I do have this warning:

If you let them revoke our passports you are signaling that they can revoke yours, or anyone else's, if it becomes expedient.

The point of a trans athlete ban isn’t to save women’s sports, which most right wing commentators openly despise. The point of a trans athlete ban is to hand the Federalist society and the ADF a legal precedent for banning trans women from everything else, too.

Where's the accountability for the NYT's transphobia?
FYI, folks from Bluesky. Reporters at The NYT, among other news organizations, are now generating a giant wave of accountability stories about the new Trump era. Reading these stories, sharing them, is a form of accountability as well. It is a form of participatory democracy too. Substance matters.

Worth noting that McConnell refusing to whip votes to convict Trump at his impeachment trial (or vote himself to convict) is *why* we’re in this position right now. If McConnell is looking for the person at fault, he might want to consult a mirror.
