"I try to argue with data"....proceeds to quote incorrect data

I'm not going to give money to them, if I want to read an article then I get it for free the next day through the library website.

Bruce Harrell has gotten very good at talking about progressive things that happened in the city despite his administration and touting them as if he had anything to do with them

when really his prerogative is treating graffiti as the highest priority municipal issue

So much of Seattle politics revolves around who we allow to be street vendors and who can do street art...

At what point do we stop teaching kids to have lemonade stands and making sidewalk chalk art?

I like murals too but I was struck recently by some genuinely beautiful (and illegal) art along I-5, which the city would classify a "tags" for which the creator should be fined $1,000 apiece

I wouldn't mind a graffiti wall like the Mauerpark, however (but Berlin is absolutely covered in graffiti, the Seattle City Council would hate it)

It's funny to hear the council talk about how excited they are to have "bodegas," given that they also voted to require all such stores to close their doors by 10pm.

One of my issues with Seattle parks is that they seem to ignore the fact that it's rainy, wet, and dark for a majority of the year. I'd love to play futsal/street soccer year round, I play Friday nights at Judkins park, but there is no cover and no lights, so if it's wet or dark...you can't play.

Let's talk about the city/district balance that Saka brings to the job...he's the chair of the city wide transportation committee but his top priority as a CM was a trans project to remove a safety barrier (against the rec of SDOT) that impacted him personally.

During the two hour session on Friday where the Seattle council questioned Interim SDOT Director Adiam Emery, this was to me the most notable moment, where Rob Saka praises Emery's "very unique, savvy understanding" of Seattle's "district-based representation model."

The city ruled chalk is graffiti and at the Graham Street event the city are encouraging sidewalk chalk art. Which is it?

You're absolutely right. International fans are not going to be driving around Seattle. I have to imagine that they do have some plans to increase capacity but just didn't put it as a budget item. (I just couldn't resist making a 'park the bus' joke.)

So moronic. I want to see more graffiti. Bigger and better and more colorful.

That teen anti-graffiti specialist is just 1/10 of the $1.6 million in new spending on graffiti abatement in Harrell's budget. The city's latest budget forecast showed a deficit of more than $200 million that will require budget cuts in many other areas, but graffiti always seems to be top priority.

Counter-proposal: spend $1.5m on some really badass new graffiti

the graffiti specialist

Graffiti is far too high on the priority list of spending, and how the money is being spent is stupid. The investment being so low is evidence that it should be talked about less, it's a drop in the bucket for the yearly budget but it's a cheap way for Harrell to look like he's doing something.

62 times seems excessive right? I'm positive this is stupid but I'm not exactly sure why yet. Is this DARE for street art? I'm pretty sure they won't actually get a "graffiti specialist" as in someone who's done graffiti and they'll get a stupid ex cop who's "busted some punks" to scare kids.
ericacbarnett.bsky.social
The word "graffiti" appears 62 times. First appearance is a $160,000 line item extending the term of a "Graffiti Specialist" who works to "educate teens and parents on the harms and consequences" of graffiti and steer them into officially sanctioned types of art.

We have a reality tv star as president...why not a footy manager for mayor? Mourinho wouldn't make the worst mayor (for a single term before it gets bad). He speaks truth to power which would be nice right now.

What other managers would make good mayors?

Seattle's parking the bus for the World Cup...who knew we're getting Mourinho as our new mayor.

What the actual fuck is this shit? Pete doesn't know jack about local Seattle politics and is just towing the party line.

Vote Katie Wilson.

Being stupid has the consequence that no one wants to hear you speak.

Why would anyone want to hear his ideas when most of what he's ever talked about is how a traffic curb is his districts biggest social equity issue? He's an idiot and we are so tired of it.

Just now in the Housing committee, after Rob Saka failed to get a second on an amendment he had proposed for the multifamily tax exemption (MFTE) program, he got visibly upset and asserted that "principles of fairness and comity demand" that he receive a second on any amendment proposals.

If Kettle really thinks this way, that inherently drinking establishments that are open late cause public safety disasters, then why stop there?...Kettle should campaign for prohibition or a curfew as a matter of safety. If he's concerned with 'safety', is he going to talk about gun regulations?
typewriteralley.bsky.social
After Alexis Mercedes Rinck offered an amendment expanding the types of allowed corner store uses to include eating and drinking establishments, Bob Kettle railed against the idea as a "recipe for a public safety disaster."

"We cannot have our neighborhoods and our neighbors be impacted this way."
