My point is on the night of January 6th, 2021, there were Republicans giving speeches on the floors of both houses of Congress ringing the death knell for Trump’s political career, and yet here we are.

I hope you’re right but America clearly has an appetite for this.

Enough to win the election without Democrats reasonably calling the results into question or calling for nationwide recounts.

Things are bad and the outlook is worse but I could easily see Americans growing tired of the violence and choosing a strongman who offers *some* semblance of law and order.

And yet he won re-election rather comfortably in 2024. Call me cynical, but I’ll believe “it’s over” when it’s over.

Given the track record of Mueller-era “we’ve surely got him now” thinking, there’s a fairly good chance they can pull up in time to save the ship and skim the tree line—as they’ve done plenty of times before.

And I’m rounding out my reading list with some light reading: Pynchon’s newest paranoid descent into fascistic madness.

I’m also finishing this book by @frankfukuyama.bsky.social as I’m starting Richard Rorty’s defense of pragmatism. It’s a quick read but it’s incredibly timely.

I’ve mentioned the book quite a few times but will include it here again for anyone wondering:
