My point is on the night of January 6th, 2021, there were Republicans giving speeches on the floors of both houses of Congress ringing the death knell for Trump’s political career, and yet here we are.

I hope you’re right but America clearly has an appetite for this.

Enough to win the election without Democrats reasonably calling the results into question or calling for nationwide recounts.

Things are bad and the outlook is worse but I could easily see Americans growing tired of the violence and choosing a strongman who offers *some* semblance of law and order.

And yet he won re-election rather comfortably in 2024. Call me cynical, but I’ll believe “it’s over” when it’s over.

Given the track record of Mueller-era “we’ve surely got him now” thinking, there’s a fairly good chance they can pull up in time to save the ship and skim the tree line—as they’ve done plenty of times before.

I’m also finishing this book by @frankfukuyama.bsky.social as I’m starting Richard Rorty’s defense of pragmatism. It’s a quick read but it’s incredibly timely.

These people will not rest until this country disintegrates into uncontrolled political violence. And politics as usual simply is not going to cut it anymore.

🎁 link to the WSJ editorial that made Stephen Miller so mad.

"It would be a shame if this single act of betrayal became the excuse for deporting all Afghan refugees...

"Thousands are building new lives here in peace. Collective punishment won’t make America safer."

The alleged shooting by an Afghan ‘partner’ shouldn’t condemn all who assisted the U.S. and now live here.

Francis Fukuyama said it best
"The world is actually in pretty good shape, but that's not enough because they want a world of struggle, they want a world in which they can risk their lives for something...they kind of invent an existential crisis."

The US federal government is openly warring against its own nonwhite population in a way no one alive has ever experienced. It’s not even getting to hide it. The overt bigotry is comparable to Jim Crow. And our pathetic, cowed, putrid political class just keeps pretending it isn’t even happening.

Everything about this late-night rant screams Miller, especially the part with Miller
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Miller and Hegseth are *obsessed* with the idea that they can engineer a MAGA golden age by violently purging everyone they perceive as an internal enemy; and they are ludicrously overconfident in their ability to get the military to go along with their shared delusion.

They are going to *try*.
